[MD1] FY1997 Mac Installed Base and User Statistics
This is a resend which corrects a slight error we made in the previous

[MD1] Configuration Changer Scripts
Software by Tim Kelly and Friends (www.madison-web.com/tkelly)
Announces Configuration Changer Scripts (CC Scripts)
CC Scripts is a Scripting Addition/OSAX that enables changing the active
configuration for all four Open Transport control panels from an
AppleScript. CC Scripts works on both 68k and PowerMac architectures. CC
Scripts also accepts remote events, so the active configuration can be
retrieved and set on both local and remote Macs.
Notable is the ease of use of CC Scripts. All it takes is one line of
AppleScript (for example, set configuration of AppleTalk/TCPIP/OTPPP/Modem
to "name of configuration"), and you've changed the active configuration.
Additionally, with the "Get" feature of CC Scripts, returning the current
configuration name, or if the keyword "with listing all" is used, returning
all the user's configurations, for that control panel is a snap. As it can
be used remotely, a system administrator can (with Program Linking enabled)
tell at a glance which...

LAFAYETTE, CA - December 10th, 1997 - Neon Software announced today a
radical upgrade to their network mapping application, LANsurveyor. Version
4.0 introduces a new client technology which queries for and displays a
wealth of information about MacOS machines on the network from
LANsurveyor's easy-to-use map interface. The client technology, called the
Neon Responder, is also very powerful because users now have the new
ability to remotely control and manage MacOS machines.
"We realized LANsurveyor's strengths could be extended to solve user's
hardware and software asset management needs." said Michael Swan, senior
technical officer and founder of Neon Software. "Important tasks such as
system profiling, software and hardware inventorying, software licensing
compliance, and file distribution are greatly simplified and can easily be
done from LANsurveyor. We also saw a need to provide a more powerful

[MD1] Frontier 5.0/Mac Alpha Release
Frontier 5: Public release of Frontier 5.0/Mac
Frontier 5 is a now a cross-platform product! On Saturday we released the
first public alpha of Frontier, version 5.0a22 for Windows, and today,
12/10/97, we have released the Mac version of the same software.
Why the delay?
There are a core set of features gathered around website building and
system management that work exactly the same on both Mac and Windows.
Our first goal in getting this release out was to get that core set working
properly on both operating systems. The core functionality, at this time,
pretty much defines the Windows product. There are almost no features that
are in the Windows software that aren't also in the Mac software. Over time
this will change as we support all the scripting culture on Windows, but
for right now Frontier/Win is mostly the cross-platform subset.
After we do a Windows release, the Mac-specific bits have to be imported
into the new root and tested. The first time we did this it took four days....
[MD1] Latitude Link Test Library
From: MWRon@metrowerks.com (MW Ron)
For those CodeWarriors out there who are planning on developing for
Rhapsody, you can now test CodeWarrior Latitude's Mac Toolbox coverage
against your own applications without purchasing Latitude. You can now
"try-before-you-buy" by downloading the Latitude Link Test Library from the
Metrowerks web site:
By replacing the Mac OS InterfaceLib in your CodeWarrior Project with the
Latitude Link Test Library and performing a link (Make) operation in the
CodeWarrior IDE, you can see if there are any Mac OS Toolbox calls that
your application is using that are not yet implemented in Latitude. This is
helpful to developers that are planning to port their applications to
Rhapsody or any other Latitude supported platform. Potential buyers must
have CodeWarrior Professional to perform this test.
CodeWarrior Latitude consists of a set of libraries that performs the
functions of the Macintosh API on Rhapsody and...
