Announcing LANsurveyor 4.0 and Neon Responders

LAFAYETTE, CA - December 10th, 1997 - Neon Software announced today a
radical upgrade to their network mapping application, LANsurveyor. Version
4.0 introduces a new client technology which queries for and displays a
wealth of information about MacOS machines on the network from
LANsurveyor's easy-to-use map interface. The client technology, called the
Neon Responder, is also very powerful because users now have the new
ability to remotely control and manage MacOS machines.

"We realized LANsurveyor's strengths could be extended to solve user's
hardware and software asset management needs." said Michael Swan, senior
technical officer and founder of Neon Software. "Important tasks such as
system profiling, software and hardware inventorying, software licensing
compliance, and file distribution are greatly simplified and can easily be
done from LANsurveyor. We also saw a need to provide a more powerful
replacement for several older, unsupported applications, such as GraceLAN
and Status*Mac." said Swan.

LANsurveyor 4.0 New Features
* Query and Display Network Addresses Assigned to Both IP and AppleTalk
Nodes Collects and displays both IP and AppleTalk information, including
essential OpenTransport and MacTCP version information, from the graphical
map layout.

* Query for System and Hardware Profiles Collects asset and resource
management data, such as MacOS version installed, CPU type, amount of
installed RAM, volume capacity and free space, and much more. Basic
questions such as "Who needs to have their OS upgraded?" are easily
answered.

* Query for Software Profiles
Generates lists of software applications, Control Panels, Extensions,
Fonts, Startup Items, and their version numbers. These profiles eliminate
repetitive, manual tasks like spotting Extension conflicts, finding
outdated software versions, and identifying missing fonts.

* Hardware and Software Inventory Reports for Better Asset Management
Predefined reports quickly inventory software application assets and help
users track and best utilize their hardware and software investments.
Software upgrades and site licensing reports are simplified. Also, a
Software Metering Report ensures software licensing compliance is no longer
a concern.

* Quit and Launch Applications Remotely
Manage nodes remotely and schedule maintenance tasks at user's convenience.

* Simple File Distribution
Distribute files easily and remotely, at a time scheduled by the user.

Pricing and Availability
Neon Software has announced new, lower pricing, making LANsurveyor even
more accessible to network professionals. The Five-Zone version is now $295
and the Unlimited-Zone version is $495. LANsurveyor 4.0 comes bundled with
20 Neon Responders. All users will receive the benefits of the new client
technology as a part of LANsurveyor. For networks of more than 20 machines,
additional Neon Responders are available in three configurations - 25
Responders ($6 per node) $150; 50 Responders ($4 per node) $200; 100
Responders ($3 per node) $300. Site license pricing is also available.
LANsurveyor 4.0 is available from Neon Software or can be purchased over
the Internet via electronic retailers such as Cyberian Outpost.

Upgrades
The upgrade price for the Five-Zone version to 4.0 from 3.0 or 3.5 is $49.
Users of versions 2.x and 1.x can upgrade for $69. The upgrade price for
the Unlimited-Zone version to 4.0 from 3.0 or 3.5 is $99. Users of versions
2.x and 1.x can upgrade for $129. All upgrades include a new, expanded
manual and 20 FREE Neon Responders.

Special Upgrade Offer to GraceLAN, Status*Mac, RADAR and Network SuperVisor
users. Neon Software is pleased to offer a special 50% off upgrade to
LANsurveyor 4.0! Upgrade for only $150 to the Five-Zone version, or only

products, until March 31st, 1998.
