Iceni allows HTML to be generated from PDF

Iceni Releases a range of Plug-In's for Adobe Acrobat Exchange that
generate HTML from PDF's

Cambridge, UK - December 7th 1997- Iceni Technology, the UK company that
specialises in creating products that make optimum use of Adobe Acrobat PDF
and related technologies, today announce the 'Genus' range of Adobe Acrobat
Plug-In's that allow the creation of HTML from PDF documents.

There are two products in the 'Genus' range, both are targeted at the low
to medium volume user, and/or generator of PDF's. 'Genus HTML' is a Plug-In
that generates HTML text from PDF's, meanwhile 'Genus Photo' is a Plug-In
that extracts the picture information from PDF's into HTML. Both products
can be used separately, but when used together they create a formidable
solution. Both the 'HTML' and 'Photo' products are available for MacOS,
Windows 95/NT and Solaris 2.5.

"We are very happy with the feedback we are getting from these products",
says Ian Haywood, Director at Iceni. He continues, "there is a real need
out there to make the generation of HTML much easier, and with the gradual
adoption of PDF as a 'standard' document format, it seemed sensible to
develop a simple method to provide conversion from PDF to HTML"

The ability to automatically generate HTML, and other text formats from
PDF's, enables the textual content of the PDF to be converted to HTML with
a minimum of manual intervention. Once the HTML text has been generated the
user is only required to check the HTML in either a web browser or an HTML
editor before placing the HTML on a web server, be it for internet and/or
intranet use. Thus removing the need to manually highlight, then cut &
paste and then re-format the text from a PDF into HTML.

Other products available
Iceni also have developed a range of Server based products. TEP is targeted
at the medium to high volume user, and/or generator, of PDF's in the
corporate and publishing sectors. The Plug-In runs in the background as a
spooler just like Distiller with Input and Output Folders. The output from
TEP is configurable so that it can generate HTML, RTF or Tagged Text from
PDF's. TEP is available from www.Iceni.com, a picture version of TEP will
be available soon.

Pricing and Availability
The 'Genus' range of products are available from the Iceni web site:
http://www.Iceni.com, or by contacting Iceni on +44 (0)1603 474831, 'Genus
HTML' retails for 65.00 UK/$100.00 USD and 'Genus Photo' for 80.00
UK/$125.00 USD exc shipping.
