[MD1] FY1997 Mac Installed Base and User Statistics

This is a resend which corrects a slight error we made in the previous
version -- a slip of the mouse which edited out one digit in one of the
tables. Sorry for the confusion.

------------------------

A recent analysis of the worldwide Macintosh installed base and the
Macintosh user base for fiscal year 1997 (ending September 30), revealed a
number of interesting highlights, including the following:

* 27.6 million Macintosh computers have been shipped worldwide since 1984.

* 79 percent of all Macintosh computers shipped are still in use. (That's
21.8 million active Macintosh computers.)

* There are an average of 3.2 users per active installed Macintosh, which
means there are 69.3 million Macintosh users worldwide.

FY1997 Macintosh Installed Base and User Statistics

today? Where are they, and what do they use the Macintosh for?"

Apple Computer, Inc. believes that, as a valued Macintosh developer,
customer, or potential customer, you deserve to know the answers to these
and similar questions. This page contains the best information Apple has,
and we are sharing it with you to convince you--the customer--that the
Macintosh platform is alive and quite healthy, and you--the developer--that
the Macintosh platform deserves serious consideration for your development
efforts.

The data below is taken directly from Apple's Market Tracking Model, which
Apple uses internally in making its business decisions. The Market Tracking
Model is derived from various data sources, including numerous primary
end-user surveys, secondary research, Apple-internal data, industry
statistics, the Apple Customer Database, and customer demographics. The
data on this page is taken from the FY1997 Market Tracking Model, which
measures the Macintosh installed base as of September 30, 1997.
