Apple has updated its MacBook Pro with faster Haswell processors but no Broadwell processors. All 13-inch models now come with 8GB of RAM standard, all 15-inch models now feature 16GB of RAM.

Worldwide tablet market grows 11% in second quarter
The worldwide tablet grew 11.0% year over year in the second quarter of 2014 (2Q14) with shipments reaching 49.3 million units according to preliminary data from the IDC (http://www.idc.com) research group. Although shipments declined sequentially from 1Q14 by -1.5%, IDC believes the market will experience positive but slower growth in 2014 compared to the previous year.
"As we indicated last quarter, the market is still being impacted by the rise of large-screen smartphones and longer than anticipated ownership cycles," says Jean Philippe Bouchard, IDC research director for Tablets. "We can also attribute the market deceleration to slow commercial adoption of tablets. Despite this trend, we believe that stronger commercial demand for tablets in the second half of 2014 will help the market grow and that we will see more enterprise-specific offerings, as illustrated by the Apple and IBM partnership, come to market."

Apple reports third quarter fiscal results
Apple has announced the financial results for its fiscal 2014 third quarter that ended June 28. The company posted quarterly revenue of US$37.4 billion and quarterly net profit of $7.7 billion, or $1.28 per diluted share.
These results compare to revenue of $35.3 billion and net profit of $6.9 billion, or $1.07 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.4% compared to 36.9% in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 59% of the quarter’s revenue.
Apple’s board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $.47 per share of the Company’s common stock. The dividend is payable on August 14, 2014, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on August 11, 2014.

Adobe announces Camera Raw 8.6 Release Candidate
Adobe has announced the availability of Camera Raw 8.6 Release Candidate on Adobe Labs (http://labs.adobe.com). The release candidate adds bug fixes, lens profiles, and support for new cameras including the recently released Nikon D810.
The release candidate also includes improvements for batch processing and color matching profiles for the Sony DSC-RX100 III, Sony A7S, and Sony Alpha SLT-A77 II. Camera Raw 8.6 is available as a free update for Photoshop customers.
BlackMagic Design announces new ProRes formats for its cameras
Blackmagic Design (http://www.blackmagicdesign.com) has unveiled version 1.8.2 of its Camera software, adding three new Apple ProRes file formats for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Production Camera 4K.
Camera 1.8.2 update is available free of charge from the Blackmagic Design website. Blackmagic Design camera customers have always been able to record in both CinemaDNG RAW or compressed ProRes 422 HQ formats;, however now this new software update adds three additional Apple ProRes file formats: ProRes 422, ProRes 422 LT and ProRes 422 Proxy.
This means customers using Blackmagic Design cameras will be able to get significantly smaller video file sizes allowing much longer recording durations on the same media card, all while preserving full frame 10-bit 4:2:2 quality. Sue Wagner joins Apple's Board of Directors
Apple has announced that Susan L. Wagner, founding partner and director of BlackRock, has been elected to Apple's board of directors. Bill Campbell, the board’s longest-serving member, is retiring after 17 years of service.
Wagner co-founded BlackRock in 1988 and helped it become one of the world’s most successful asset-management companies, holding a range of leadership positions including vice chairman until mid-2012. She continues to serve on the boards of BlackRock and DSP BlackRock (India), as well as Swiss Re, Wellesley College and Hackley School.

Graphic Node launches a scrapbook template set for Pages
Graphic Node (http://graphicnode.com/) has introduced Sketches for Pages 1.0, a new templates collection designed specifically for Apple's page layout program. The set includes 50 customizable templates for creating scrapbooks.

Typinator for Mac OS X revved to version 6.1
Ergonis Software (http://www.ergonis.com) has released Typinator 6.1, the latest version of its tool for auto-typing text and auto-correcting typos systemwide across all Mac OS X applications. The upgrade sports over 50 new features and improvements, including a new marker for suppressing the current replacement and a new function for sorting text lines.
With an inclusion mechanism, text expansions can execute external scripts and include their results in the expansion. Typinator supports scripts written in in many different languages like AppleScript, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, and arbitrary shell scripting languages.
Typinator requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later. Mac OS X 10.7 or higher is recommended.
