IconBrowser for OS X Released
Friday, January 4th, 2002
Iconfactory Press Release - IconBrowser for OS X Released
The Iconfactory is pleased to announce the immediate release of IconBrowser
for OS X. IconBrowser, free to registered users of IconDropper, allows
users to browse and apply icons from existing IconDropper packs in the new
Macintosh operating system. IconBrowser was created in association with
PolyMorph Software Development.
The Iconfactory distributes its icons in space-saving collections called
IconDropper Packs. These packs make organizing and finding custom icons on
the Mac quick and easy. However, OS X brought huge changes to the Macintosh
and the Finder. Unfortunately, this meant that classic versions of
IconDropper (and its associated packs) no longer worked under OS X.
IconBrowser is designed to solve these problems and preserve the usefulness
of icon packs. IconBrowser is a stand-alone product that works with all
existing IconDropper packs and does not require IconDropper to run (just a

Write a paper for MacHack!
Writing a paper is a great way to share knowledge with your peers. Do you
work on the bleeding edge? Tell us about it! Have you mastered some obscure
programming concept that made your life easier? We want to know! The
MacHack community is very receptive to new ideas or in-depth coverage of
existing technologies and techniques. The audience is also very technical,
so papers that include code samples (or hardware schematics!) are
preferred. But if you have non-programming ideas to share, that's okay too.
Some really fun papers in previous years have looked at the lighter-side of
development.
Past paper topics have included thread concurrency, cross-...
iHam on iRye version 1.0: Remote iTunes Admin
iHam on iRye version 1.0
iHam on iRye is a set of three applications used to control iTunes over a
LAN or WAN network. With iHam on iRye, you can control nearly every aspect
of iTunes running on one Macintosh from any other Macintosh on your
network. It is mainly intended to be used in conjunction with an MP3 server
type situation, where a Macintosh is dedicated to running iTunes. While
this application can be used over the Internet, it works best when used on
a LAN network, or at least an Internet connection with broadband. Dial up
modems are not recommended (or supported). iHam on iRye iServer runs best
under Mac OS X. Under classic, there seem to be some issues. For one, it
crashes periodically when choosing a new song from the playlist. I am
beginning to think this is an iTunes bug, but at this point, I am not
exactly sure what is going on.
