iWorm malware could still be a problem for some Macs
Apple's security technologies for Mac OS X may still miss iWorm, a piece of malware discovered in late September that infected thousands of computers, according to the IDG News Service (http://tinyurl.com/qxuhav8).
Apple released an update for its XProtect antivirus engine to detect iWorm, but the update only detects when iWorm's installer is launched, which is a one-time operation, according to Patrick Wardle, director of research with Synack, a computer security company based in Redwood City, California. It means that computers already infected with iWorm before the update would still be compromised, notes IDG.
iWorm, which is a backdoor that can steal data from a computer, infected more than 18,000 machines, according to security company Dr. Web (http://tinyurl.com/k42z9kh). It does not exploit any vulnerabilities on Mac OS X but instead relies on tricking people to install it.

Law firm investigating retail pharmacies for blocking Apple Pay
The law firm of Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe (www.schubertlawfirm.com) has launched an investigation into the conduct of retail pharmacies CVS and Rite Aid over their decision to block contactless payments, including Apple Pay and Google Wallet, in their retail stores.
The firm is currently considering a potential class action to restore Apple Pay service at CVS and Rite Aid stores. CVS and Rite Aid have long allowed contactless payments at their retail stores, but less than one week after Apple deployed Apple Pay, the large retail pharmacy chains disabled those system to prohibit the payment method.
According to the New York Times, this decision was predicated on CVS and Rite Aid’s membership in the so-called Merchant Customer Exchange (“MCX”), which includes retail big-box stores like Walmart and Best Buy. Instead of allowing Apple Pay or Google Wallet, the MCX has developed its own payment system to get around the fees charged by the credit-card companies.

From there, the attacker has full control of the system.
Apple hasn't fixed the flaw yet, Kvarnhammar says, so Truesec won't provide details of how it works.
