ION Audio releases Tape 2 PC for Mac, Windows systems
ION Audio (http://www.ion-audio.com) has released Tape 2 PC, an US$134.95, USB dual cassette player/recorder with the ability to convert tapes to MP3, for use in iTunes or any iPod, with the included recording software. No special drivers are needed. You plug the Tape 2 PC into a computer using the provided USB cable and install the software. The digital copies of the archived songs can be transferred to an iPod or other MP3 player. Tape 2 PC includes EZ Audio Converter for the Mac; it's software for converting and recording tapes directly to iTunes. EZ Tape Converter 2 features Gracenote MusicID technology, which analyzes recordings and automatically retrieves album, artist and song information. Small Tree provides driver support for Intel's latest 10...
Small Tree (http://www.small-tree.com), maker of Mac-based networking and shared storage products, has finished developing its network driver software for the next generation of Intel's Ethernet 10 Gigabit PCI Express Adapter, based on the Intel 82599 10 Gigabit Ethernet Controller. Small Tree's OS X software driver, designed for Intel's adapters, offers a "significant performance improvement in 10 Gigabit connections at an affordable price for the Apple marketplace," says Corky Seeber, president of Small Tree. He adds that the company's technology is ready to support all the new performance boosting features in the upcoming Mac OS 10.6 ("Snow Leopard"). Development was focused on providing reliable real time performance using Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), the protocol chosen most often by Final Cut users to share files. Default Folder X adds support for Snow Leopard
St. Clair Software has updated Default Folder (http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/index.html), its utility for enhancing Open and Save dialogs in Mac OS X, to version 4.3. This release delivers support for Apple's new Mac OS 10.6 "Snow Leopard," as well as continued compatibility with Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5. It also provides improvements in Default Folder X's feature set and reliability. Default Folder X 4.3 is a free update for existing users who purchased a license or upgrade on or after June 1, 2007. The upgrade is US$14.95 for users who bought their copies before that date. Default Folder X costs $34.95 for a new license. In the game you choose one out of eight languages and try to create a phrase from the words given to you. Patterned after a writing instrument, Styloid allows precise control of both touch screen interfaces and the small buttons found on modern digital devices. According to the folks at RadTech, it's useful for users with large fingers or long nails who typically have difficulty manipulating small target screen elements and buttons. It purportedly even works while you're wearing gloves. The Styloid features a hard-anodized aluminum barrel with polished stainless steel accents and a pocket clip. It's finished in satin black, and is free of any sharp edges.

BackPack is metal shelf designed for the iMac, Cinema Display
Twelve South (http://twelvesouth.com) has introduced BackPack, a shelf designed specifically to fit the iMac and Cinema Displays. As the name suggests, the perforated metal shelf attaches to the back of Macs and can be used to store hard drives, hubs, iPods and other Mac peripherals. It's available at Apple stores and online for US$29.95. The BackPack uses two adjustable clips and gravity to literally perch on the desk stand of iMacs and Cinema Displays. The adjustable clips allow users to position the BackPack at the desired height, so gear on the shelf is within reach. Since it's height adjustable, there's room for two BackPacks on one Mac. With two BackPacks in place, the lower shelf could be used to store larger hard drives, while the top shelf could be used to store smaller items like a charging iPod, or a favorite collectible.

It's the first product introduced in the company's new Studio Series which features Bongiovi Acoustics' Digital Power Station (DPS) technology. It sports a processor that actively scans the recorded material and compensates for any deficiencies across the audio frequency spectrum, effectively restoring it to the sound the artist originally intended to be heard, according to Evan Stein, vice president of Marketing, iHome.
