Avian Securities expecting 'lower-spec/lower-price iPhone...
The iPhone 5 should go into production in September Avian Securities said in a note to clients -- as reported by "Business Insider" (http://macte.ch/M3Ts3). This suggests the iPhone won't be on the market until the end of this year, or even early next year possibly, says the research group. Apple may also be developing a lower price/lower spec iPhone model, says Avian. "Our conversations also indicate the existence of a lower-spec/lower-priced iPhone in Apple's roadmap," the research group told clients. "However, while our contacts have seen the placeholder in the Apple roadmap, they do not yet have insight into specs or production timing. This leads us to believe that any launch is likely a very late 2011 or more likely a 2012 event. As a reminder, Avian has uncovered several data-points in recent months pointing to the existence of a lower-spec/lower-price iPhone. A lower-spec/lower-price iPhone has also been speculated in the press and gadget blogs, though we do not believe...

Garner: iOS to dominate tablet market through 2015
Despite mounting competition from other operating systems, Apple’s iOS will continue to own the majority of the worldwide media tablet through 2015, according to Gartner (http://www.gartner.com). Due to the success of Apple’s iPad, iOS will account for 69% of media tablet OSs in 2011, and represent 47% of the media tablet market in 2015, says the research group.

Gartner analysts say the Apple iPad did to the tablet computer market what the iPhone did to the smartphone market: re-invented it. A media tablet is not just a different form factor to perform the same tasks that can be done on a computer, says the research group. Tablets deliver a richer experience around content consumption, thanks to the ecosystem they support. The richer the ecosystem, the stronger the pull for consumers.

“Seeing the response from both consumers and enterprises to the iPad, many vendors are trying to compete by first delivering on hardware and then trying to leverage the platform ecosystem,” says...

Manufacturers include firmware in their drive mechanisms that counteracts this inevitable bit decay. Every time a bit is accessed, the drive "refreshes" its magnetic imprint on the disk. Analyst comments on Apple's anticipated 'Cloud Tunes...
In a note to clients -- as reported by "Barron's" (http://macte.ch/75x21) -- Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes comments on the report that has Apple purchased 12 petabytes worth of storage equipment from Isilon Systems, a division of EMC. This lines up with what expects will be Apples version of iTunes “in the cloud,” a hosted data service, the article adds. "We believe that Isilon’s capabilities dovetail nicely with our vision for Apple’s upcoming 'Cloud Tunes' -- an extension of iTunes into the cloud that allows easy access to digital content from any Apple device," Reitzes writes. "We believe that Apple will release a new cloud strategy by the fall, likely integrating its MobileMe services and taking advantage of its significant investments in its North Carolina data center. We believe the launch of Apple’s service is much more complex than Amazon’s given its millions of users with years worth of files. Theoretically, a cloud-based content service could allow Apple to offer...
