Better than one-in-five planned purchasers (22%) say they’ll buy a Kindle Fire. Mac now has 5% global market share, a 15-year high
iOS devices get all the publicity, but the Mac in going strong. In a note to clients -- as reported by "AppleInsider" (http://www.appleinsider.com) -- Needham & Company analyst Charles Wolf says Apple saw its worldwide share of the computer market pass the 5% mark for the first time in 15 years due, mainly, to strong gains in Asia. Mac sales in the third quarter of 2011 outpaced the overall computer market for the 22nd straight quarter. Apple's 24.6% growth was much higher than the 5.3% growth in total computer shipments. Apple reported record Mac sales of 4.89 million for the period. According to Wolf, that was enough to push Apple past the "magic 5% mark," up from 4.7% globally in June and 4.4% a year ago. "More impressively, the growth in Mac shipments in the past year represented 20% of the growth in worldwide PC shipments," he said. The Mac saw 25.6% growth in the home market and 43.8% in the business market. Unfortunately, in the education market there was only 2.9% Mac...

Sales of iPads at the end market totaled 11.12 million units in the third quarter of 2011, according to data released by Apple. However, inventories of parts and components prepared by the makers in the supply chain for the production of iPad 2 in the quarter are sufficient for the production of 15-16 million iPads, leaving a stockpile of 4-5 million units of iPad 2 in the supply chain, notes "DigiTimes." Even as Apple adjusts panel inventory for the iPad 2, Samsung and Sharp began shipping panels for the iPad 3 in October, the article adds. Taiwan-based touch panel makers TPK Holding and Wintek will begin to ship touch panels for the new iPads to the supply chain this month...

AT&T: other iPhone carriers not hurting our business
AT&T Inc.'s customers have remained loyal despite losing its exclusivity for selling the iPhone, the U.S. telecommunications company tells "MarketWatch" (http://macte.ch/7zPzg). "Churn has not moved at all," said Glen Lurie, president of emerging devices for AT&T. Churn refers to the number of customers who cancel services. Lurie adds that AT&T's relationship with Apple has been positive, and they've had record-breaking sales of the latest iPhone 4S which has led to some supply issues. U.S. consumers are looking at a week to two week wait times to get the latest iPhone 4S from AT&T, he said.
