Book Review: My New Mac Lion Edition
Posted by Greg Mills
I get email from book publishers and Mac related product companies quite often. Sometime, I wonder why no one told them the idea sucks and that they ought to work on a different idea. Sometimes, I am surprised that a new product or book really represents value to the Mac community despite my early misgivings.
I was approached a while back by Travis Peterson, product manager for No Starch Press see: www.nostarch.com regarding a new owners manual for Mac OS Lion. They sent me the PDF file of the book a couple of weeks ago and the hard copy arrived late last week. The owners manual comes in at 472 pages of pretty well thought out information, that is organized in a way you can find what you want fast.
I was just browsing and noticed a feature in Mail I had overlooked and using "My New Mac, Lion Edition" I was able to open an email using stationary, an HTML format email creation feature I vaguely knew was there, but had never used.
I think the hidden features of Mac Operating Systems are so deep it takes an exhaustive manual to unlock a lot of power we all have at our finger tips but few of us actually use to the fullest extent. My New Mac covers everything from using a mouse to the deep dark secrets hidden in system files. This manual will find a place on my desk for the times, I am scratching my head to remember how some obscure system feature works.
