The iPhone Duo 2 might fix one of its biggest flaws

Macworld

The iPhone Duo hits stores tomorrow, and the anticipation couldn’t be higher. Pre-orders are backordered until January, although Apple has confirmed that limited quantities will be available for walk-in customers on launch day. Apple Stores are already preparing for big crowds, and basically everyone who’s tried one is ready to declare it the best foldable of the year.

Apple reportedly boosts iPhone Duo orders by more...

Supply chain reports suggest that Apple has increased iPhone Duo orders by more than 40% in response to what the company described as “extraordinary” pre-order demand.

Delivery dates started slipping literally within a minute or so of pre-orders opening, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether this reflected high demand or poor supply. This latest report seems to point firmly to the former …

Apple says developers are showing ‘incredible’...

One of the major issues raised by early reviews of the iPhone Duo is limited support by third-party apps. As we noted in our own review, there are three tiers of support currently, the worst of which sees an iPhone app stranded in the center of a mostly black area of the display.

The good news is that Apple says the position is changing rapidly, citing “incredible” support for the larger display of the folding iPhone …

Best time to buy an iPhone in 2026: Buy now or wait...

Macworld

If you’re planning to buy a new iPhone, should you buy now or wait for Black Friday? With the iPhone Duo going on sale tomorrow, October 23, Apple’s latest lineup will be complete – but the newest models aren’t necessarily the best buys.

The Duo joins the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, although limited launch stock means getting Apple’s first foldable could require patience. Meanwhile, there are some excellent U.K. deals on the discontinued iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max as retailers clear remaining stock. If you want premium cameras and performance without paying the latest Pro prices, those older models are worth considering.

iPhone Duo reviews: The absolute best foldable phone...

We posted our own review of the iPhone Duo yesterday, and Chance Miller was left convinced that “this form factor represents the future of the iPhone,” while acknowledging that the first-gen iPhone Duo comes with trade-offs.

I think what surprised me most is the degree of consensus found across the reviews, given the generally polarized appeal of foldable phones. That’s not to say reviewers think everyone should buy one, but there is widespread agreement on the pros and cons – starting with five key takeouts …

Macworld

The MacBook Pro, as we know it, isn’t long for Apple’s Mac lineup. It’s expected to undergo a drastic change during next week’s “Pro and Tell” event. At long last, Apple is expected to unveil its long-rumored MacBook Pro that finally brings touchscreen support to the Mac.

A touchscreen alone, however, isn’t enough to sell me on an upgrade. I already have an iPhone and an iPad. For one, Apple needs to convince me that I even want a touchscreen on my MacBook Pro, but more than that, the touchscreen makeover is a perfect opportunity for Apple to upgrade its laptop in other ways. Here’s what I’ll be looking for when Apple unveils the first touchscreen MacBook Pro next week.

Best iPhone 2026: Every iPhone compared

Macworld

Apple’s 2026 iPhone lineup is broader than ever, ranging from the relatively affordable iPhone 17e to the high-end iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, plus the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the new folding iPhone Duo. That gives buyers more choice, but it also makes picking the right model more complicated than simply choosing the newest or most expensive iPhone.

For most people, the iPhone 17 is the best all-round choice, thanks to its 6.3-inch ProMotion display, strong battery life, dual 48MP cameras and 256GB of storage as standard. The iPhone 17e is the better option if price matters most, while the iPhone 18 Pro is the model to choose for the best...

iPhone buying guide 2026: Which iPhone should you...

Macworld

With the iPhone Duo now on sale, choosing an iPhone now includes a new question: do you want a conventional phone or one that folds open into a larger display? Apple’s first foldable joins an already extensive lineup, but the newest – and most expensive – model won’t be the best choice for everyone.

Your decision will depend on your budget and what matters most to you, whether that’s camera quality, battery life, a bigger screen or a phone that fits comfortably in your pocket. Older models can also offer excellent value, with some particularly attractive U.K. deals on the discontinued iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

In this guide, we compare every iPhone currently available from Apple, covering prices, cameras, displays, performance, battery life, durability, design and storage. We also explain the compromises to consider before choosing...

The iPhone Duo

The very nature of the iPhone Duo raises numerous obvious questions about what it’s like to use. Does it not feel thick and heavy, awkward both to pocket and unpocket? Doesn’t the outer (cover) screen feel small and cramped, with an unfamiliar squat-rather-than-tall layout for UI controls in every app you use? Isn’t it weird that when you open it up to use the inner screen, that all the hardware buttons on the edges of the device are in the “wrong” places for a tablet? For anyone who’s gotten used to Face ID over the last decade, is it not frustrating to go back to Touch ID? And what about third-party apps that haven’t been updated to support the Duo’s novel displays — do they not suck to use?

Clearly, the point of a Duo review is to answer these questions, which really boil down to one question: How did Apple solve these problems?

The answer is: They didn’t.

All of these problems are real, and each of them detracts from the experience of using the Duo. Some of...

The new human-crafted Apple Music brand matters in...

Apple just revealed a new brand identity for Apple Music, with the expected turn to Liquid Glass. I’m not much of a fan of their new design language in general; this is where I admit that I’m still running MacOS Sequoia and have grumpy things to say about rounded corner radii and text legibility.

It’s just a trend, it will pass, and at some point I’ll probably cave and upgrade when it starts actually affecting my ability to get work done, or more importantly get security updates. Once I adjust, I’ll stop noticing it, and life will go on.

As such, I wouldn’t normally find an obvious rebrand like this notable, much less feel like I had much to say about it. But then I happened to catch Apple’s behind-the-scenes video in my YouTube recommendations, and I realized I did have thoughts.

Macworld

The first wave of iPhone Duo reviews has landed, and the overall response is very positive. Reviewers have uncovered numerous issues with Apple’s first-ever foldable, but have proved surprisingly forgiving. Let’s get into the details.

Late to the party

Apple, not for the first time, is arriving late to the party. “The iPhone Duo arrives seven years after Samsung’s first Galaxy Fold,” pointed out Wired. But this is classic Apple strategy, and there are good reasons why the company bided its time. “In Apple tradition,” the site continued, “its first entry into an existing category feels fully mature; the Duo has significantly less jank than the first few generations of its Android counterparts...

New Apple job listing hints at path to 6G devices

Macworld

When Apple launched the iPhone 12 in 2020, one of the headline upgrades across the range was support for 5G. This then-new networking standard enabled the devices to access claimed mobile speeds roughly 50-100 percent higher than 4G LTE… provided coverage was available in the user’s area. This caveat meant improvements were difficult to notice in the short term, but it was an important upgrade for the long term. (Some skeptics disputed its value, admittedly.)

Six years on, Apple is making plans for the next version of the technology, unimaginatively called 6G, and the quality-of-life improvements this will deliver to iPhone owners.

Best iPhone Duo cases: Slim, protective and...

Macworld

Apple’s new iPhone Duo is both big and small, and it’s more susceptible to knocks and drops than a standard iPhone with its folding function maybe taking a while to get used to. It’s the first iPhone that needs a case built around moving parts—namely the hinge. A case for a foldable can be made from one or two shells, with the additional question of covering the hinge or leaving it bare. The phone goes on sale October 23, and cases are already arriving.
