Wireless, handheld ultrasound debuts
Clarius Mobile Health (www.clarius.me) is showcasing the world's first handheld ultrasound scanner with a mobile application for iOS and Android smart devices at the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine Conference in New York.
It’s wireless and works with a mobile app that’s compatible with most iOS and Android smart devices. With automated adjustments and an intuitive interface, the personal ultrasound device is designed to be carried around for quick exams and to guide procedures such as nerve blocks and targeted injection, says Laurent Pelissier, chairman and CEO of Clarius Mobile Health. Pending regulatory clearance from the FDA, CE and Health Canada, the company will offer “several mobile scanners for the price of a single traditional compact system,” he adds.
Clarius expects to begin filing for regulatory clearance to distribute the product around the world in the spring of 2016.

Ally Bank adds support for Apple Pay
Ally Bank, the direct banking subsidiary of Ally Financial, now offers customers with debit cards access to Apple Pay, Apple’s mobile payment service.
In participating stores, Apple Pay will work with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch. Within apps, Apple Pay is compatible with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. Once a customer has entered their Ally Bank debit card information on a device, they’ll be ready to make payments with Apple Pay at supported merchants, according to Diane Morais, CEO and president of Ally Bank.
To pay at checkout, users simply hold their mobile device near a contactless reader and authorize the payment using a passcode or Touch ID, and a subtle vibration and beep will confirm that the payment has been processed. ExxonMobil launches Speedpass+ mobile payment app with Apple Pay
ExxonMobil is now the first major fuel retailer to accept mobile payment at the pump, including Apple Pay, throughout the majority of its U.S. network. The Speedpass+ mobile payment app is now available at more than 6,000 Exxon- and Mobil-branded retail stations across the U.S.
The app enables customers to authorize a pump for payment securely through the use of cloud-based technology. Customers have the option to select Apple’s mobile payment system as a default form of payment from within the app.
The Speedpass+ mobile payment app is available as a free download at the Apple App Store. It may also be linked to checking accounts or other major credit and debit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and ExxonMobil cards—giving customers choice in how to pay. Seagate demos ‘fastest-ever SSD flash drive’
Seagate Technology has unveiled a production-ready unit of what it says is the fastest single solid-state drive (SSD) demonstrated to date, with throughput performance of 10 gigabytes per second (GB/s). The early unit meets Open Compute Project (OCP) specifications, making it ideal for hyperscale data centers looking to adopt the fastest flash technology with the latest and most sustainable standards.
The 10GB/s unit, which is expected to be released this summer, is more than 4GB/s faster than the previous fastest-industry SSD on the market. It also meets the OCP storage specifications being driven by Facebook, which will help reduce the power and cost burdens traditionally associated with operating at this level of performance, says Brett Pemble, Seagate’s general manager and vice president of SSD Products.

The software is designed to free up operator computers from outputting InDesign files by automating InDesign workflow with hot folder processing. Version 1.5.47 addresses an issue in which exporting InDesign spreads to JPEG could result in blank pages when working off certain network servers.

Xero launches TaxTouch for freelancers
Xero (xero.com), known for its accounting software, has launched Xero TaxTouch, a new app developed specifically for freelance workers who submit a Schedule C form with their tax filings. It provides a way to track earnings and tax liability by automatically downloading and organizing bank and credit card transactions from all major U.S. banks and credit cards.
Users can separate expenses by swiping right for business or left for personal. Xero TaxTouch estimates quarterly tax payments, and continually tracks take-home earnings. It also helps freelancers save money by categorizing expenses according to IRS-approved business deductions.
Xero TaxTouch is priced at $5.99/month, or $29.99 for the first year and is now available for download on iOS from the Apple App Store.

App Camp For Girls, a non-profit organization aimed at correcting the gender imbalance in the software industry, is expanding this summer.
At App Camp For Girls, campers receive a broad introduction to the process of iOS app development, from brainstorming and designing ideas to building and pitching their apps. The girls use Macs and Xcode, Apple's suite of developer tools, to build their apps and run them on iPod touch devices.
An inaugural camp session will be held in Phoenix, Arizona. Camp sessions will also take place in established locations: Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington; and Vancouver, British Columbia.
