SuperHot, the runaway first-person shooter, is now available on the Mac App Store. Corel debuts AfterShot Pro 3
Corel has debuted AfterShot Pro 3 (www.AfterShotPro.com) for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. The new version of the photo editing and organization software adds a highlight recovery algorithm, watermarking, layer-based blemish correction, as well as dynamic update abilities that enable new camera RAW profiles to be supported faster than ever.  AfterShot Pro 3 enables photographers to organize thousands, cull from hundreds, and perfect a single photo, according to Greg Wood, senior director of Photo Products at Corel. Observer for OS X adds support for more sites

Xeric Design (http://www.xericdesign.com) has released EarthDesk 7, an update to its real-time dynamic desktop map for Mac OS X. The app replaces your static desktop with an image of the Earth showing current sun, moon and city illumination, as well as real-time cloud coverage. A data subscription offers additional real-time information including earthquakes and named storms, allowing you to visualize hurricanes and other real-time events on your Mac. Gemini for OS X revved to version 2
MacPaw's Gemini, a Mac-only duplicate finder and cleaner, has been upgraded to version 2. According to CEO Oleksandr Kosovan, here’s a list of the changes…. The app spots similar files in addition to identical duplicates: “similiars" aren’t 100% identical files, like duplicates, but they have so little difference that a user might consider some of them redundant. Apple updates iWork apps for OS X, iOS
Apple's iWork apps (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for OS X and iOS have been updated with bug fixes and stability improvements. Pages for Mac has been updated to version 5.6.2, while Keynote for Mac is 6.6.2, and Numbers for Mac is updated to version 3.6.2. All are available at the Mac App Store. Mac Shutdown upgraded to version 4.0
Tension Software (www.tensionsoftware.com) has upgraded Mac Shutdown to version 4.0. The utility can use “Soft Shutdown” and “Hard Shutdown” to power down your Mac. Soft Shutdown is issued at the Finder level and tells all running apps to quit before shutting down the Mac. Microsoft’s OneDrive reducing free storage from 15GB to 5GB
Microsoft is making some changes to OneDrive (https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/), its file hosting service that allows users to sync files and later access them from a web browser or mobile device. The amount of free storage that comes with OneDrive will change from 15 GB to 5 GB. Microsoft is also discontinuing the 15 GB camera roll bonus. As a result of these changes, you will be over your OneDrive storage limit on Aug. 10. To bring your account within the new limits, you can purchase additional storage or choose to remove some files.

Retrospect: 52% of small businesses have suffered data loss
A new survey sponsored by Retrospect (www.retrospect.com), makes of Retrospect Backup & Recovery software, finds that more than half of small businesses have suffered data loss, through accident, loss, failure, theft, or disaster. The survey was conducted with Google Consumer Surveys across a sample of 1,000 small businesses.   The survey respondents reported accidents to be the most common form of data loss at 36%. Behind that, they reported loss at 21%, theft at 15%, disaster at 7%, and other at 6%. Under “Other,” respondents included "drive failure,”manufacturer erasing the hard drive during a warranty repair” and "employees doing things they shouldn’t.” And with the ability to select more than one form of data loss, 2% reported that they were unlucky enough to suffer from all four types.   According to a Gartner research group study of companies experiencing a "major loss" of computer records, 43% of companies were immediately put out of business, and another 51% permanently...

MailButler for OS X Mail gets Follow-Up feature

It's called Follow-Up, and it allows users to schedule a follow-up reminder that will notify them when there is no response to a particular email. Tension Software announces CryptoEdit 2.1 for OS X
Tension Software (www.tensionsoftware.com) has updated CryptoEdit for Mac OS X to version 2.1. It’s an application for creating and editing “encrypted by default” documents. Apple’s CareKit tool arrives along with four new apps
Apple has launched its third medical framework, CareKit. Four apps are now available at the Apple App Store. CareKit is a tool for assisting people in taking an active role in their care. iPhone apps using it make it easier for individuals to keep track of care plans and monitor symptoms and medication; providing insights that help people better understand their own health, says Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer, Initiatives. With the ability to share information with doctors, nurses or family members, CareKit apps help people take a more active role in their health, he adds. CareKit has been released as an open source framework, allowing the developer community to continue building on the first four modules designed by Apple. The first four CareKit apps are: Glow Nurture, a pregnancy tracker; Glow Baby, an app to help you log and time all aspects of your baby’s care; Start, a depression management app; and OneDrop, a diabetes management app.
