NS Logic has announced XtremeTether, an "extreme" wireless tethering system for select Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras. It gives photographers complete wireless remote control tethering of their Nikon or Canon DSLR cameras, using a WiFi transmitter and free apps for Macs and iPads.
XtremeTether transmitter generates its own 802.11 WiFi network hot spot, allowing the device to work even in remote areas where no other computer or wireless network is present. The software is free and runs on Mac OS X and iOS 7.

A federal jury says didn't infringe the patent of a 70-year-old electrical engineer who claims he came up with the idea for the smartphone, reports "Bloomberg" (http://tinyurl.com/pkno2bb).
The jury in Los Angeles has rejected the claim by NetAirus Technologies, the company owned by inventor Richard L. Ditzik, that the iPhone infringes its patent for a handheld device that combines computer and wireless-communication functions over both a Wi-Fi and cellular telephone network.
NetAirus Technologies purportedly filed the patent application in 1997 for a handheld device that combines computer and wireless-communications functions over both a local-area network and a wide-area network. Apple said in court filings that its Newton message pad, with add-on hardware, could perform the same functions as those claimed by NetAirus’s patent as early as 1994.
Judge denies Samsung's emergency motion
Samsung's emergency motion to stay the recent retrial in its ongoing legal battle with Apple has seen another set-back.
According to "FOSS Patents" (http://tinyurl.com/k988atx), U.S. District Court Judge Lucy Koh denied the motion. Apple had argued that Samsung's request "crossed the bounds of reason."
Last week in a retrial the jury awarded Apple US$290 million damages. The total damages awarded to Apple from Samsung so far is $929 million.
Group accuses Apple suppler of violating worker rights
Biel Crystal Manufactory, a Hong-Kong based company that makes screens for Apple is purportedly violating workers' rights at its Chinese factories, reports "Reuters" (http://tinyurl.com/m5rdgt4).
The Students & Scholars Against Corporate Misbehaviour (SACOM) report said Biel Crystal, which makes iPhone screens, requires its employees to work 11-hour shifts, seven days a week, with only one day off each month. SACOM is a a Hong Kong rights group.
Employees are also often injured and not given reasonable compensation and have to sign blank contracts, the group says. Biel Crystal hasn't commented.

Tension Software (www.tensionsoftware.com) has released DB-Text 1.3, an update of the general use tool to open and edit data in text format on OS X. It's now compatible with Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
DB-Text can import data both in CSV (comma separated value) text format or in TSV (tab separated value) text format coming from OS X, Windows, and Unix systems. It can automatically recognize the used format analyzing the content inside. Data can be manipulated and exported as text (as CSV, TSV, html or custom format selecting separators and other tags) or saved inside a native DB-Text document.
