Intel preparing six-core chips for high-end desktops
Intel is preparing six-core chips for high-end desktops and servers for release in the first half of this year, reports "Computerworld" (http://www.computerworld.co.nz/news.nsf/technology/six-core-chips-on-int...). I'd expect these babies to appear in upcoming Mac Pros.
The six-core chips will be based on the company's latest Westmere architecture and deliver faster performance and more power savings compared to earlier quad-core chips. The chips will contain 1.17 billion transistors and include 12MB of cache, a company spokesman says.
The new chips are made using the 32-nanometer process, which is also used to make the company's latest Core processors introduced last month. The base architecture of both the chips are the same, but the six-core chips won't include integrated graphics capabilities. Users will need to buy a discrete graphics card to work with the chips, says "Computerworld."

This will create a unified Linux-based platform that will run on multiple hardware platforms across a wide range of computing devices, including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
Called MeeGo, the open software platform "will accelerate industry innovation and time-to-market for a wealth of new Internet-based applications and services and exciting user experiences," says Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini. MeeGo-based devices from Nokia and other manufacturers are expected to be launched later this year.
This announcement strengthens the Nokia and Intel relationship, and builds on the companies' broad strategic collaboration announced in June 2009. Intel and Nokia now invite participation in MeeGo from existing Maemo and Moblin global communities and across the communications and...

Transcriptize lets you take transcriptions from Adobe Production...
Intelligent Assistance has introduced a new software tool that takes Transcription XML from Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or Soundbooth CS4 and converts it text, Excel Spreadsheet or Final Cut Pro clip markers.
According to Intelligent Assistance’ CEO Philip Hodgetts, the software imports the transcription XML from the Adobe Production Bundle and allows editors and producers to name the speakers -- something not possible in the Production Bundle. From there users have the option to:
° Export a plain text file, suitable for the needs of a producer or to import into Media Composer’s Script Sync engine;
° Export an Excel spreadsheet with a variable number of words per row;
° Open the XML from a Final Cut Pro clip and add the transcription to Markers.
There are a variable number of words per Marker (including one Marker per speaker). The speaker name is placed in the Marker name. Transcription appears in the clip Marker comment. Marker colors are used to identify each...
Boris FX introduces Job Slate pug-in for Final Cut Pro
Boris FX (http://www.borisfx.com) has announced Boris Job Slate, an US$199 Apple Final Cut Pro plug-in that automatically creates commercial slates based on XML files received from the Ad-ID advertising identification and management system.
It imports Ad-ID XML files, automatically parses the data, and creates a commercial slate, eliminating the need for manual data entry. The text style, text layout, font type, and font size can be fully customized in the Boris Job Slate text window. Changes to the actual text are never saved, preserving data integrity and avoiding inadvertent changes to the imported Ad-ID information.
With Boris Slate, you can use pre-installed backdrops or create custom image plates. You can also move entire text objects relative to the background and change their scale using Final Cut Pro controls.
Also, for a limited time, Boris FX is offering a free, fully-licensed plug-in from Boris Continuum Complete 6 - BCC Comet, an auto-animating filter based on Boris...
