'DigiTimes': next gen iPhone shipments may fall below...
Shipments of the next gen iPhone -- rumored to be announced on Sept. 12 and released in third quarter the year -- will probably fall below 15 million units compared to the expected 20 million units, according to "DigiTimes" (www.digitimes.com).
Why? The report, quoting unnamed "sources in the supply chain," says the forecast previously due to low yield rates in the production of in-cell touch panels as well as a connector at the bottom of the phone. A reduction in the first batch of shipments of new iPhones may result in a short supply, "which in turn may trigger a buying spree for the new models in the fourth quarter as well as in the first half of 2013," reports "DigiTimes."

Analyst: Apple on its way to $1 trillion market valuation
In a note to investors -- as reported by "AppleInsider" (www.appleinsider.com) -- Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White says that, after passing Microsoft's record and becoming the most valuable company ever on Monday, Apple has passed a "key sentiment barrier" on its way to a US$1 trillion market valuation.
He notes that previous companies with market capitalization above $500 billion were already dominant in their markets. On the other hand, Apple still has a relatively small share in markets where it competes, so it still has enormous growth potential, White adds.
"For example, Microsoft, held over 90% market share for PC operating systems at the peak cap, while Intel had over 80% of the PC processor market and Cisco had over 70% share in the networking market," he says. "On the other hand, IDC estimates Apple held just 4.7% of the PC market in (the first quarter of 2012) and 64.4% share in the mobile phone market in (the second quarter)."

However, Goodrich was fired in December for "business reasons"" unrelated to his job performance, he says.
Goodrich filed a lawsuit on Aug. 17 in The Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, claiming breach of contract and unfair business practices, "Bloomberg" reports. The suit seeks damages for wages, benefits, the loss of restricted stock, and emotional distress. For more info go tohttp://macte.ch/3leSY .

In a note to analysts -- as reported by "AppleInsider" (www.appleinsider.com) -- FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger thinks the next gen iPhone will be one of the most promising device upgrade cycles in Apple's history, driving more than US$50 in earnings and as many as 250 million units.
The analyst says the "iPhone 5 Tsunami" should help the wireless industry as a whole. Berger thinks Apple's next smartphone will "help the industry migrate to a better balance between content provider and end-user revenue sources to support continued investment."

All this is part of an ongoing battle between the two companies. "Also, JDSU noted that they have a new non-gaming customer for its gesture control modules. They indicated this is a new "living room" based customer. We believe Apple will leverage AT&T's and Verizon's content deals for the iTV. Additionally, the WSJ's sources indicate Apple may also consider a set-top box version for the cable operators."

'WSJ': Apple has big plans for the Apple TV
Who knows about the rumored "iTV," but Apple has big plans for its Apple TV set-top box, according to "The Wall Street Journal" (http://macte.ch/FEBxi). The article says Apple is in talks with some of the "biggest U.S. cable operators" to use the set-top box for live television and other content.

° Immediate access to live TV content that consumers are already paying for (and that, otherwise, Apple would have to license directly from networks);
° A clever way of getting into the living room and TV ecosystem, without forcing consumers to change their TV-watching habits or TV...

It seeks to terminate and rewrite Apple’s bargained-for contracts before a single document has been introduced into evidence, before any witness has testified, and before the Court has resolved the disputed facts. Once its existing contracts are terminated, Apple could not simply reinstate them after prevailing at trial. The Court’s decision would be irreversible. Nullifying a non-settling defendant’s negotiated contract rights by...
