Macs top consumer satisfaction list for eighth consecutive year
Macs topped the American Consumer Satisfaction List for the eighth year in a row. The report covers customer satisfaction with personal computers, major appliances, and electronics (televisions and BD/DVD players).
One year after climbing 4% to a record-high score of 78 on ACSI’s 0 to 100-point scale, customer satisfaction with personal computers flattens out. The industry itself is in a state of rapid change, with technology advances accelerating amid shifts in consumer preference, according to the research group. As the demand for traditional desktop computers weakens, the tablet computer market is skyrocketing -- led by the iPad.
Apple’s record of customer satisfaction preeminence in the personal computer industry continues unabated in 2011, as the company adds another point to its already exceptional score, according to the ACSI (http://www.theacsi.org).. At 87 (+1%), Apple outdistances its nearest competitor by nine points.
"In the eight years that Apple has led the personal co...
Apple worth almost as much as Microsoft, Google combined
Apple's stock continued to rise Monday closing at an all-time high of US$411.63. The company is now worth almost as much as Microsoft and Google combined.
"Questions about [Steve] Job's continued role at Apple clearly were creating a drag on the stock the last six to nine months," one long-time Apple investor told "Business Insider" (http://macte.ch/DLHN2). "While in the past, Apple did not handle questions regarding Steve's health very well, this time they did and a question that had been keeping many from investing in the stock has been cleared away."
The stock increase also reflects the financial community's faith and comfort in the executive leadership that Jobs has put in place over the past few years, the article adds.
Also, Apple's $380 billion market cap makes it the most valuable company in the world, "head and shoulders above Exxon," "Business Insider" Jay Yarow says (http://macte.ch/UNoG3). But it also does something even more impressive: it puts Apple in position to...

Some Netflix users facing problems using an Apple TV
Some Netflix users are having problems with the Apple TV -- including Yours Truly. I was able to sign in to my account with no problem, see my viewing history, see my Instant Queue, browse titles and more.
However, when I tried to play anything (say an episode of "Friday Night Lights"), I was treated to the "spinning wheel of death" for a few seconds, then got an error message. The message would say "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later" or "Netflix is currently unavailable; try again later." This only happened with the Apple TV/HDTV combo; there was no problem using Netflix on my Mac or iPad.
I had fewer than the maximum six playback devices currently authorized to play streaming content. Also, there were no problems streaming content from other providers like YouTube and Vimeo.
If you're experiencing the same thing, first try doing an Apple TV reset to factory defaults. This also forces the device to download the latest firmware. That solved my problems. However...

During the game notes stream from the left to the right and have to be identified with one of the six provided instruments. There are two basic instruments where either letters like C, D, E or tone syllables like Do, Re, Mi are assigned. Four advanced input instruments-- bass, guitar, mandolin and piano -- are also available.

Netflix on price hike confusion: sorry 'about that
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has apologized for the recent lack of "respect and humility" in the way it separated its DVD and streaming services and the accompanying price hike.
He says the company should have personally given a full justification to its members of why they're separating DVD and streaming, and charging for both. Hastings says that streaming and DVD by mail are becoming two quite different businesses, with very different cost structures, different benefits that need to be marketed differently, "and we need to let each grow and operate independently."
So in a few weeks, Netflix will redub its DVD by mail service to "Qwikster." It will be the same website and DVD service that everyone is used to, he adds. It is just a new name, and DVD members will go to qwikster.com to access their DVD queues and choose movies. There will also be a new video games upgrade option, similar to our upgrade option for Blu-ray, for those who want to rent Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games.

The iPhone 5 hasn't even been announced yet, and already Samsung is planning to ban its sale in South Korea, according to the "Korea Times" -- as reported by "CNET." Samsung is also countersuing Apple in Australia.
Samsung will file suit against Apple for violating its patents related to wireless communications as soon as possible after the iPhone maker launches its follow-up to the iPhone 4. In that lawsuit, the Korea Times' sources say, Samsung will request the court ban all sales of the device.
Meanwhile, Samsung has filed a counter claim in an Australia court, accusing Apple of infringing its wireless patents related to the company's iPhone and iPad products, notes "Reuters." MokaFive opens a Window for Macs in the Enterprise
MokaFive (http://www.mokafive.com/), a company known for its virtualization- and desktop-management software, says its product suite is the ideal solution for companies that have standardized on a Windows operating system, but also want to meet the demand of a growing -- and increasingly vocal -- Mac constituency.
Third-quarter 2011 reports showed that Mac sales growth exceeded that of PC sales by more than 400%, according to industry-analyst firm Gartner Group (http://www.gartner.com), who reported in July that PC sales growth was a dismal 3.8% over 2010 -- a much smaller number than projected.
The trend indicates that while other manufacturers’ sales seem to be suffering from a sluggish economy, the demand for Macs is unwavering. The brand appears to have become especially popular with mobile executives, whose requests are sure to hold sway with the IT departments assigned to them.
MokaFive Suite virtualizes the Windows operating system, abstracting it from the computer...

Analyst: Apple in no rush to release iPad 3
In a note to clients -- as reported by "Bloomberg" (http://macte.ch/NdPqS) -- JP Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz says Apple is in no rush to release the iPad 3.
While "there are prototypes in the supply chain related to the next-generation device,” it will likely not be available until 2012, he said. “That timing appears reasonable, given the rigid refresh cycles that Apple applies to all of its product lines. IPad 2 just lauched this past spring," notes Moskowitz.
ITC to review ruling on HTC's infringement of Apple patents
The U.S. International Trade Commission will review a ruling that declared that HTC had infringed two Apple patents, a decision that could possibly lead to the banning of HTC’s Android smartphones in the US, according to "Bloomberg."

Apple had previously won a lawsuit against HTC, which was found to have infringed two of the company’s patents covering data transmission and the identification of phone numbers, technologies that are utilised by Google’s Android operating system on HTC’s smartphones. The ITC will now review four patents, two that HTC had previously been found to infringe, and two additional patents that cover the programming of HTC’s operating...
