The Data Rescue Center can help save your data in extreme circumstances

You probably know Prosoft Engineering as the company behind such Mac products as Drive Genius, Data Rescue, and Picture Rescue. However, did you know they also offer the Data Rescue Center (TDRC)?

Drive Genius is a hard drive utility that cleans up, optimizes, and speeds up your Mac. Data Rescue is a tool for recovering data from a corrupt hard drive or one that refuses to mount. Picture Rescue is software for recovering data from media cards that have gotten corrupted or been accidentally erased.

The Data Rescue Center comes into play when you run into problems that Prosoft's software line isn't equipped to handle. It opened in January 2011 in Livermore, California. The company has a core group of employees, as well as "cross-branded" employees who handle work for both TDRC and Prosoft Engineering. In all, there are under 20 employees at the Data Rescue Center.

One of the features of the facility is its cleanrooms, which offer special filtration equipment that prevents air particle contamination. When a hard drive suffers physical damage, the data recovery process and drive repair require a high degree of care and expertise. The recovery process involves the removal of the drive from the computer and subsequent disassembly. This needs to be done in a pristine environment.

The Data Center has one state-of-the-art Class 10/ISO 4 cleanroom (fewer than 10 particles per one cubic foot of air that measure greater than 0.5 micrometers). That's 10 times cleaner than the industry standard Class 100/ISO 5 cleanrooms.

"No other data recovery company has a better rating or a 'cleaner' cleanroom than ours," says Prosoft CEO Greg Brewer. "It is also very unique because three of the four walls are double layered bullet proof glass and the entire ceiling is a huge air filter.  The filters are controlled by a computer and provide 100% coverage. The air in the room is pulled in through vents on the floor up through the two layers of glass and out the vents on the ceiling. All the tools and equipment used inside our cleanroom is made specially out of material — non-outgasing plastic — that won’t contaminate the environment."

Prosoft's Class 100 Cleanroom has an environment specifically engineered to prevent damage to open hard drives. A cleanroom with a Class 100 rating refers to the United States Federal Standard 209E. The international equivalent is an ISO 5 rated environment, as determined in the ISO Standard 14644. The ISO standard has replaced the Federal Standard to provide consistency worldwide. The Data Rescue Center maintains its cleanroom to both standards and provides data recovery and drive repair on an international scale.

In dire circumstances in which extremely sensitive and important data is at risk, the Data Rescue Center offers Class 10 Cleanroom Recovery Service. It boasts 10 times the industry standard cleanliness level.

What's more, Data Recovery services are performed in a fully quarantined network environment with offline servers housed within a Class 2 vault. How secure is it? It has a two-ton, full mechanism lock system and is made of 18-inch reinforced concrete.

The Data Rescue Center is home to the NucleusOne, a joint venture between the Center and DARWINmachine, a design of custom computer chassis. It's a custom data recovery workstation designed specifically for cleanroom recovery. The Data Center has multiple NucleusOnes handling all of their cleanroom jobs.

The Data Rescue Center has 24-hour security. Plus, the company conducts extensive employee background checks and security screenings.

"The Data Rescue Center has received a very enthusiastic, positive reaction from both the public and corporate sectors," says Brewer. "With the support of its integrated software development company (Prosoft Engineering.), TDRC enjoys the exclusive benefit of data recovery software engineers working hand-in-hand with physical recovery experts to create an unbeatable combination of expert service with an extremely competitive price point. In the future, TDRC plans on building on its in-house expertise and software assets to expand its computer-assisted and automated recovery offerings in order to stay ahead of the pack in terms of value and quality to its varied customers."

He adds TDRC's prices are typically 30% lower than competitors. Plus, they offer a free consultation and estimate for a recovery, Brewer adds.

If you're in the Livermore, California, area, you can visit the Data Rescue Center and check it out for yourself. The center has offered tours for computer user groups and college IT classes, as well as local schools. If you're interested in a tour contact sales@prosofteng.com .
