[MD1] UNIX Web Connectivity for FileMaker

Cuesta Technologies to Provide UNIX Web Connectivity for
FileMaker Pro Databases

February 27, 1997 - Palo Alto, CA - Cuesta Technologies today announced
a new service that makes it possible for databases created with FileMaker
Pro 3.0 for Mac OS, Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows 3.1, the popular
database software program from Claris Corporation, to run on UNIX Web
servers. The Cuesta Online Database System uses software developed by
Cuesta Technologies, and is the first to offer a way for connecting
FileMaker Pro 3.0 databases to UNIX servers.

"As the second best selling Windows and Mac database program in the
world, FileMaker Pro 3.0 is probably one of the most widely used databases
used on the Web. We're excited about Cuesta's solution because many
FileMaker users have been anxiously awaiting just this kind of Web
connectivity for their databases," said Tony Campitelli, Product Manager,
Database Products, Claris Corporation.

According to Monty Swiryn of Cuesta Technologies, "Many FileMaker
Pro 3.0 users want a high-performance solution for putting their databases
on the Web. Existing approaches require running the FileMaker Pro 3.0
application on a Mac or Windows server, which may cause a significant
draw on the server's resources. Cuesta's solution is to put only the data
on the UNIX server. The result is the fastest search performance on the
Web today combined with the ability to update the data as often as desired.

"Our clients selected the Cuesta Online Database System for their Web
based catalog solutions not only for its performance and flexibility, but
also because our system allows content managers to continue to use FileMaker
Pro 3.0 on their Mac or Windows PCs to keep their databases up-to-date in
the same way they do for their print and/or CD-ROM catalogs."

Kelly Caldwell, advertising project manager for Steck-Vaughn Company
recalls, "We had been using FileMaker Pro internally for a long time and
our Web site was already running on a UNIX server. Discovering that we
could continue using FileMaker Pro for our new online catalog, implement it
on the UNIX server and leverage the training and personnel we had in place,
meant that we could save an enormous amount of time and money."

With Web based commerce and other database dependent Web applications
poised to become a multi-billion dollar market, Cuesta's belief is that Web
sites need to acquire a level of sophistication common to applications in
the personal computer software industry. Cuesta Technologies provides that
level of sophistication by deploying Web sites with fast database access in
a flexible and extensible system that ties navigable dynamic Web pages
directly to the database.

Cuesta Technologies was founded in April, 1995 and deployed its first
FileMaker Pro 3.0 powered Web site for the Educational Software Institute
in mid-June of that year. ESI's Online catalog of over 8,000 educational
software programs has won such prestigious awards as the Top 5% of All Web
Sites from Lycos/Point, the NetGuide Gold Award, and the All-Internet
Shopping Directory's Top Shopping Award. It has also been recognized as
exemplary site by the Software Publisher's Association and the government
and industry-sponsored NII Awards.

In addition to FileMaker Pro 3.0 Web connectivity services, Cuesta
specializes in tools for building sophisticated Web-based applications
such as highly interactive online catalogs that include dynamic 'shopping
carts,' database and code-level visitor tracking, secure transaction
processing, state-aware navigation, and user registration with email
broadcasting.

Cuesta is a Sun Solution Provider with IAP Certification. This means that
Sun Microsystems has certified that Cuesta's applications are compatible
with Sun-supported operating environments and that Cuesta Technologies has
advanced knowledge of the Internet and recognized expertise.
