Metrowerks Introduces CodeWarrior Tools for Carbon and Mac OS X

Special Renewal Option Extended for CodeWarrior Users

San Jose, California-May 12, 1999-Metrowerks Inc., (Nasdaq: MTWK,
TSE/ME: MWK) a leading provider of software development tools for
desktop and embedded systems, today announced CodeWarrior support for
Apple Computer's Carbon Application Environment (Carbon) and Mac OS X
Developer Preview Release. Metrowerks also announced the company has
extended its renewal policy until June 30th for customers updating
their CodeWarrior for Mac OS license.

A special developer release of Mac OS-hosted CodeWarrior tools for
Carbon and Mac OS X was introduced by Greg Galanos, president and
chief technology officer at Metrowerks, during today's Metrowerks
session at Apple's 1999 Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose.
Attendees received a copy of CodeWarrior tools that support Mac OS X
development with CodeWarrior Professional, Release 4. These tools
will be released to all CodeWarrior licensees as a part of
CodeWarrior for Mac OS, Release 5, which ships in June.

Metrowerks' new tools include updated versions of PowerPlant and the
Metrowerks Standard Libraries conforming to the Carbon APIs. With
these tools, developers can start porting applications to the Carbon
Application Environment for Mac OS X with tools running under Mac OS
8. In particular, developers use remote debugging features in these
tools to perform source-level debugging of applications and shared
libraries running on Mac OS X target from the Mac OS 8 host system.

At WWDC this week, Metrowerks previewed the CodeWarrior for Mac OS,
Professional Edition Release 5 tools. These include significant
enhancements in the area of rapid application development (RAD) for
Java, XML import/export facility for text-based projects,
significantly improved compiler optimization for PowerPC, and the
first preview release of PowerPlant Version 2.0.

"Metrowerks has carefully tracked Apple's development of Mac OS X and
has provided the tools developers require to start their transition
to the Carbon Application Environment and the Mac OS X operating
system," said Mr.Galanos. "Using CodeWarrior on Mac OS 8, developers
can transition rapidly and painlessly to Carbon by using their
favorite IDE and tools to cross-compile and source-level debug their
applications on Carbon/Mac OS X. The same tools can be used to build
Mac OS 8 or Mac OS X applications using the Carbon APIs and the new
CodeWarrior tools."

Special Renewal Price Extended Through June 30th Metrowerks has
extended the current renewal pricing through June 30, 1999. Existing
CodeWarrior customers in the USA and Canada who update to Release 5
before June 30th will be charged a renewal price of US$299 and will
receive both CodeWarrior for MacOS, Professional Edition Release 5
and CodeWarrior for Windows, Professional Edition Release 5.
Customers who update to Release 5 after June 30th will fall under the
pricing policy that went into effect on May 1, 1999. Customers
outside the USA and Canada should contact their local distributor for
information on renewal pricing and policy. Further information on the
special renewal pricing is available at
