Think about it. You've just spent several hundred clams for one of the top music mobile devices for its excellent sound reproduction, yet have given the recipient a pair of $29 phones.
You should have completed the experience and went the whole nine yards and purchased a pair of Atrios canal phones from Future Sonics.
The Juice
Future Sonic traces its root back over two decades ago, when founder Marty Garcia was asked by Todd Rundgren asked him to "put the sound in my head." Mr. Garcia experimented with some gel-based dental adhesive and that was the beginning that has brought to us the Atrios. Used for seemingly ages by professionals on stage, now you can purchase them in colors and with various accessories.
They come equipped with what look like small umbrellas but are actually formed that way to prevent any external noise from intruding on your experience. They also come with large and small expandable foam sleeves. Simply slip them on the sound tube, squeeze them so you can place them in your ear, where they will expand to also prevent any external noise.
One of the accessories is getting custom molded earpieces to fit perfectly in your ear, like the pros do. Your Atrios ear canals also come with an upscale carrying case, so not as to lose them or the accessories.
The Pulp
The price may seem high but many audiophiles have compared these against units several times their cost. In the end, they preferred the Atrios. And 10Hz - 20,000 Hz. 'Nuff said.
I tried them with my iTunes and iPhone, rock, classical, jazz, TV programs, et al. The clarity was very good. But what was truly the amazing bit is how full the bass response is.
The Rind
The only negative I actually found was that I need to have my ears cleaned.
(Editor's note: normally, the Future Sonic product is US$199. However, Macsimum readers can get the company's products at a a special price; Go here for details.)
Summary
I stopped listening to music through my system a long time ago. That's because of finances. Now, what costs less -- a pair of tower speakers or a pair of Atrios. That's right. And the Atrios can come along with me.
