WWDC Interview: Pangea Software
This week TUAW and MacTech Magazine teamed up to speak to developers at Apple's WWDC 2011 about the keynote and how Apple's new technologies will help them and their customers. Over the next couple of weeks we'll bring you those videos on TUAW, MacTech and on MacNews. Also, check out the special WWDC free trial subscription offer for MacTech Magazine here. This video features Victor Agreda, Jr. (editor-in-chief of TUAW) and Brian Greenstone of Pangea Software at WWDC, and he was kind enough to tell us about some new stuff Pangea is working on, plus the reason Cro-Mag Rally (US$2.99) was once featured in an iPhone ad. Pangea Software was an early entrant on the App Store and has had a string of successes. It's interesting to hear what the Mac App Store and Lion mean to their plans going forward, considering many of their apps predate OS X!

Pangea releases QTVR web browser plug-in
Pangea Software today announced the release of a free web browser plug-in called PangeaVR which brings OpenGL acceleration to Quicktime VR movies. "Over the last several years 'interactive panoramic photography' (aka QTVR) has quietly been making huge leaps in realism. Today's hi-end QTVR movies are truly mind-blowing compared with the tiny and limited QTVR movies of the late 1990's... Unfortunately, the panoramic renderer in Quicktime still does its drawing in software, therefore, navigating a large full-screen panorama on a 23" Cinema Display gets a little chunky. The PangeaVR plug-in solves this problem by rendering Quicktime VR panoramas with OpenGL to achieve liquid-smooth animation." Otto Matic, Bugdom go 3D
Pangea Software today announced the immediate availability of Otto Matic v2.0 and announced the upcoming release of Bugdom 2 v2.0. Both of the games have been updated to support 3D anaglyph glasses. "Once we had the 3D glasses working in Nanosaur 2, it was fairly easy to pop the code into some of our older games so that they could also be played in true stereo 3D," said Brian Greenstone, president of Pangea. "Since Otto Matic is a game all about 1950's sci-fi B-movies, it only made sense that we put the 3D glasses support into that game first." In addition, Pangea announced that the CD version of Nanosaur 2 is now shipping. The above news item was originally posted on MacMinute.com. The game is made up of four different types of mini-games: Duels, Shootouts, Stampedes, and Target Practices. "It's the kind of game you pick up when you need a break and just want to blast stuff, " says Brian Greenstone of Pangea. "The art and music is probably the best of any game we've ever done, and the gameplay has more variety than any game we've done for the Mac." Billy Frontier is available as a US$14.95 download, and there are no plans to have the game available on CD. The above news item was originally posted on MacMinute.com.
