Let the Apple Car rumors roll on. Apple has been granted a patent (number 10,850,666) for “windows with active layers” on a vehicle. It involves both front, back, and side windows, as well as a sun roof, with built-in, adjustable defrosting features and the ability to adjust the amount of sunlight they allow to pass through — all while looking good.

In the patent data, Apple note that vehicle windows sometimes include heating and light filtering components. For example, vehicle windows may include filter layers that block infrared light. Vehicle windows with infrared-light-blocking capabilities may help avoid excessive heat buildup in vehicles that are exposed to sunlight. 

A rear window in a vehicle may use an ohmically heated wire for defrosting. A vehicle may have a sunroof window with an adjustable tint for selectively darkening or brightening of the interior of the vehicle.

Apple TV+ has ordered a new six-part documentary series from Box to Box Films and the World Surf League (WSL) that will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the aspirations, failures and accomplishments of the world’s best surfers as they battle for the WSL Title and struggle to remain on the elite WSL Championship Tour (CT).

Here’s Apple’s description of the still-untitled docuseries: Each episode will be a rich exploration of the characters who make up the 2021 WSL Men’s and Women’s CT, taking viewers on a journey to incredible surfing locations across the globe, starting in Hawaii on December 4th, 2020. The docuseries will dive into different surfing cultures, as well as timely subjects tied to the sport including eco-conservation, sustainability and marine preservation.

But the company just unveiled a brand new feature that uses machine learning to identify and label every button, slider and tab automatically. iOS 14 has a new Translate feature for Safari that’s, per Apple. “designed to be the best and easiest app for translating conversations, offering quick and natural translation of voice and text among 11 different languages.” 

Its on-device mode allows users to experience the features of the app offline for private voice and text translation. To translate a webpage in iOS 14’s Safari:

° Open Safari.

° Go to a website in a language you want to translate.

° Tap the aA button. 

° Choose the language you want the website data translated to.

Disabling notifications in macOS is a great help during meetings, whether you’re sharing your screen or trying to avoid being distracted. Formerly head of Business Operations for PCH,  Rubinstein brings more than 25 years of experience in operations, development and engineering. New Jersey native, and California resident Rubinstein has worked in Silicon Valley at large global tech companies like Apple and more recently 14 years as COO of the small but high-growth publisher, Topix.

Rubenstein worked at Apple from 2001 to 2010. He played an important role in the development of the iMac and iPod.
