iPhone 16 Pro Max beats all comers in battery life...
It's not surprising that the largest smartphones by the likes of Apple and Samsung have the longest battery lives, because they have the biggest batteries — but new testing shows that the iPhone 16 Pro Max beats them all.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the top smartphone for battery life.
Technology enthusiast site Tom's Guide has updated its rankings of battery life in popular smartphones for manufacturers' latest models. Its testing showed that the iPhone 16 Pro Max's battery, rated at 4685mAh, lasted for 18 hours and six minutes.
By comparison, Chinese smartphone OnePlus 12 managed 17 hours and 37 minutes. That's the closest to the iPhone 16 Pro Max — but the OnePlus 12 has a larger 5,400mAh battery.

iFixit's iPhone 16 teardown revealed a new battery removal process that does away with the usual pull tabs, instead opting for an adhesive that debonds when exposed to a low electrical current. From the report: Only the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have the new adhesive, and they've earned a 7/10 on iFixit's repairability scale. "Apple definitely seems to be leveling up on repairability," Mokhtari, adding Apple has "landed another repairability win" with this year's base iPhones thanks to the new battery removal procedure. Apple’s true hit of 2024 isn’t the iPhone 16
Macworld
As a long-time iPhone mini fan (insert your own “THERE ARE DOZENS OF US!” gif here, I’m too bitter to find one), I have sat out a number of new iPhone purchasing opportunities over the last few years.
The rent it too high, the phones are too big.
This year, however, knowing that I would have to eventually give in to Big Phone™, and the addition of the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 got me. I ordered an iPhone 16. It’s nice. I like it. Is it too big? Yes, it’s too big. It’s also not the most exciting thing I bought that came out of Apple’s September event.
Now hear this
The other thing I bought was the jauntily named AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. (What’s wrong with AirPods+, Apple?) These new devices don’t do anything the AirPods Pro didn’t already do–they do less–but there are two types of ears...

Apple Rolls Back Its Big Plans to Release Movies in...
An anonymous reader shares a report: Apple is rethinking its movie strategy after the disappointing box office performance of several big-budget films, including Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, Argylle and Fly Me to the Moon. Apple canceled plans to release Wolfs -- an action comedy starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt -- in thousands of theaters globally. Instead, the picture made its debut in a limited number of venues before it became available on the Apple TV+ streaming service on Sept. 27. Apple plans to use a similar approach with the next few titles on its calendar, including the World War II drama Blitz. Apple, which previously had intended to spend about $1 billion annually on blockbusters for cinemas, won't return to the big screen with a wide, global theatrical release until June with F1 -- a film starring Pitt as a former Formula One driver who returns to racing to mentor a rising star.

- Cross-platform solution with macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Windows, Android, and web apps.
- Offers monthly and annual plans with a free trial through the web or Apple’s App Store.
- Features an integrated library of some commonly needed documents and forms.
Cons
- The Mac app fails to deliver all advertised features.
- The monthly plans are objectively overpriced.
- The app performs poorly and its design is quite dated.
Our Verdict
pdfFiller can get some basic tasks done, but promised features are missing and it doesn’t always perform reliably. You can find better-optimized PDF editors with more advanced functionalities that cost significantly less.

The iPhone will finally kill Android in 2025
Macworld
Like a soft-hearted boxer trying to give the crowd value for money, Apple has done its best for years to keep Google standing in the smartphone ring. If it truly exerted itself, we always felt, the Cupertino Crusher could put the Mountain View Mangler on the canvas in short order. But the company could never quite bring itself to apply the coup de grâce.
The reason, of course, has nothing to do with charity—Apple simply doesn’t want to release an iPhone that’s better or more expensive to manufacture than it needs to be. It has numerous advantages over the various Android hardware vendors: it has more money to spend on R&D, it can control and optimise hardware and software together, it has better customer trust and brand recognition, and its business model isn’t based on advertising and data capture. But while an “insanely great” iPhone might kill Android as a realistic alternative, it would cut into profit...

Meta stored 600 million Facebook and Instagram...
Across Facebook and Instagram, Meta has been storing more than half a billion users' passwords in plain text, with some easily readable for more than a decade.
One of Facebook/Meta's headquarters
The issue was first uncovered in 2019 when Facebook admitted to "hundreds of millions" of passwords being stored unencrypted. Facebook, now Meta, said that the passwords were not available outside of the company — but also admitted that around 2,000 engineers had made about 9 million queries on that user database.
Now Meta's operation in Ireland has finally been fined $101.5 million after a five-year investigation by the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC). The fine is levied under Europe's stringent General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

A teardown of the iPhone 16 Pro has given a closer look at its internals, resulting in the highest repairability score since the iPhone 7.
iPhone 16 Pro teardown [YouTube/iFixit]
As is customary for an iPhone release, companies start to tear down the devices to check out the internals. While one initial teardown has shown off the new metal battery in the iPhone 16 Pro, another has looked at how easy it is to repair.
Published to YouTube on Friday, the iFixit teardown again covers the inclusion of a fully-encased battery. According to the firm, the new battery offers a benefit to repairers, in that "you can accidentally poke it to your heart's content and it...

While we enjoy our new iPhone 16, Apple is working to make a lower cost Apple Vision Pro, Meta Orion is pretending to be regular glasses, and Jony Ive's firm has a cute new logo, on the AppleInsider podcast.
Apple's new iPhone 16 Pro
AppleInsider is not into style over substance, it's always about going deeper. Still, the Desert Titanium color on the new iPhone 16 Pro range is glorious — and Jony Ive's new LoveFrom logo is the cutest thing you'll see this week.
Not that it has competition for that title from, say, Meta Orion. Billed as the future of mixed reality headsets, it's currently making a spectacle of itself — or rather spectacles, looking like 1950s-style glasses. Yet it is a...

How to get WhatsApp on iPad
Macworld
WhatsApp is an incredibly popular iPhone app, connecting more than a billion active members around the world every day. It lets you send messages to friends, or groups of friends, over Wi-Fi or 4G/5G and make savings on your phone bill. (Of course, you may end up paying for data if you go over your limit, so don’t go crazy!)
Unfortunately, right now WhatsApp is only available for iPhone–there isn’t a version of the app for the iPad despite the fact that WhatsApp boss Will Cathcart (in January 2022) acknowledged in an interview that people had been asking for an iPad app for a long time. Cathcart revealed that much of the infrastructure to develop an iPad app is already in place, but he made no immediate promises.
Things could be about to change though. WhatsApp for iPad is available as a beta via TestFlight and can be...

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple Intelligence will be the chief selling point of an M5-based Apple Vision Pro, and also that little else will change from the current model.
Apple Vision Pro
While most recent rumors regarding the future of Apple's headset have concentrated on plans for a lower-cost Apple Vision version, it has also been obvious that there would be future versions of the Apple Vision Pro. It's also been obvious that such a future version would use a newer processor than the M2 in the current generation, but Ming-Chi Kuo now specifies...
