Samsung Mocks Apple's Controversial 'Crush...

Samsung has released a response to Apple's recently criticized "Crush" ad, which featured the destruction of instruments, arcade games, and sculptures to promote the new iPad Pro. Apple subsequently apologized, with an executive admitting they "missed the mark."

In a video titled "UnCrush," created by BBH USA and directed by Zen Pace, Samsung depicts a woman navigating debris reminiscent of Apple's ad, using a Galaxy Tab S9 and Galaxy AI to play guitar, in contrast to Apple's destructive message. "We would never crush creativity," the caption of Samsung's video reads.

Best iPhone chargers: How to pick the right USB-C...

Macworld

If you’ve ordered a new iPhone recently, you’ll notice that the box is a whole lot slimmer than in previous years. That’s because the bulkiest accessory is gone: the power adapter. Apple has removed the charger from all iPhones it sells, so whether you’re spending $429/£429 on an iPhone SE or $1,599/£1,599 on a maxed-out iPhone 15 Pro Max, you need to bring your own charger.

Any old charger you have lying around will work, of course. But if you’ve been using Apple’s feeble old 5W adapter, it’s a perfect time to upgrade. Apple now supplies a cable in all iPhone boxes to allow for fast charging, so all you need is the right charger. Here we list our favorite trusted iPhone chargers—many of which do more than the plain Apple-branded chargers.

Apple silicon’s arrival on the Mac has led to renewed hope of a robust macOS gaming market emerging. For as loved as Macs may be among the general population of users, when it comes to gaming, PCs and consoles have long proven necessary if you want to play the latest games. Apple’s success with gaming on iOS has not translated to the Mac.

But things have started to shift. Last year Apple debuted a new porting tool that enabled PC games to more easily be brought to macOS, and we’ve started to see more AAA titles come to the Mac as a result. Typically though, those titles have launched only after extended runs on other platforms.

Now, we may have evidence of even more hope for Mac gaming’s future, as one of this fall’s highly anticipated titles, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is coming to the Mac day-and-date with...

Last week Apple released an ad for its new iPad Pro that was widely panned. The ‘Crush’ ad showed a variety of creative instruments being crushed and ultimately transformed into an iPad Pro. The image of destroying beloved creative tools, though, didn’t send the desired message. Apple later issued an apology. Now Samsung has released its own parody ad, ‘UnCrush,’ which itself demonstrates a continued pattern of lacking creativity.

How to control a Mac remotely over a local network

Macworld

Apple began including screen sharing nearly 20 years ago in its Mac operating system. If you have multiple Macs in your home or office on the same local area network (wired, wireless, both, or even two Macs connected via Thunderbolt), you can observe or control another Mac on that network. Some regular users aren’t aware it exists because they’ve never needed to use it.

It’s not entirely obvious how to set it up or access it as it requires changes on both the Mac to be shared and looking in the correct place on the Mac viewing the other’s screen. It can be handy to use if you have multiple Macs in different places or a Mac without a keyboard and mouse used as part of a home A/V system, or one bereft of head (display) and inputs deployed as a server.

To set this up on the Mac that can be viewed or controlled:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Sharing or System Settings > ...

Apple Brings Eye-Tracking To Recent iPhones and iPads

This week, in celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple is introducing several new accessibility features. Noteworthy additions include eye-tracking support for recent iPhone and iPad models, customizable vocal shortcuts, music haptics, and vehicle motion cues. Engadget reports: The most intriguing feature of the set is the ability to use the front-facing camera on iPhones or iPads (at least those with the A12 chip or later) to navigate the software without additional hardware or accessories. With this enabled, people can look at their screen to move through elements like apps and menus, then linger on an item to select it. That pause to select is something Apple calls Dwell Control, which has already been available elsewhere in the company's ecosystem like in Mac's accessibility settings. The setup and calibration process should only take a few seconds, and on-device AI is at work to understand your gaze. It'll also work with third-party apps from launch, since it's...

The M4 iPad Pro has a lot going for it to tempt prospective buyers. Whether you’re coming from a 2018 iPad Pro like me, or a newer M-class iPad, there are plenty of great reasons to upgrade to the new iPad Pro. The OLED display can’t be beat; the M4 chip is unmatched in Apple’s lineup; and on a lesser note, there’s even a color-matched USB-C cable with the space black model.

The upgrade incentive I didn’t really expect, but that’s hitting me hardest today, is just how much better the new Magic Keyboard is than its predecessor.

And yes, sadly the new keyboard is exclusive...

Troubling iOS 17.5 Bug Reportedly Resurfacing Old...

An anonymous reader shares a report: There are concerning reports on Reddit that Apple's latest iOS 17.5 update has introduced a bug that causes old photos that were deleted -- in some cases years ago -- to reappear in users' photo libraries. After updating their iPhone, one user said they were shocked to find old NSFW photos that they deleted in 2021 suddenly showing up in photos marked as recently uploaded to iCloud. Other users have also chimed in with similar stories. "Same here," said one Redditor. "I have four pics from 2010 that keep reappearing as the latest pics uploaded to iCloud. I have deleted them repeatedly." "Same thing happened to me," replied another user. "Six photos from different times, all I have deleted. Some I had deleted in 2023." More reports have been trickling in overnight. One said: "I had a random photo from a concert taken on my Canon camera reappear in my phone library, and it showed up as if it was added today."

This official Apple special-edition Watch band is...

Macworld

Much like Apple Watches, extra Apple Watch bands can be rather pricey, so whenever one snaps, replacing it can burn your pocket for $50. Thankfully, we found a fantastic model on clearance at Walmart that’s just $14, good for $35 off the original MSRP and a great chance to grab an official Apple Watch for less than some third-party options.

The discounted model is the 40mm/44mm Black Unity Sports Band. This special edition watch band was created to celebrate Black history and culture and is inspired by the Pan-African flag, featuring the same beautiful combination of black, red, and green. The band also has an inscription that reads “Truth. Power. Solidarity.”

These are 40mm and 44mm bands, but they will fit all larger...

Back in the days when Macs had hard drives we all had tons of space on our Macs, but the SSDs that feature in our Macs now are more limited in capacity, and high-res video, photos, music and other essential files take up more storage than ever.

Running out of space can really hamper your computing: if you want your Mac to run quickly you need to make sure you’ve got something like 10 percent of your storage free at all times otherwise your Mac can really slow down (read: How to speed up a Mac). At worst if you don’t delete some of the things taking up storage space on your Mac...

It’s a niche issue that some users may not ever notice, but with the OLED screen central to marketing efforts for a device that starts at $1,299/£1,299, any “blemish in the beauty,” as iMore puts it, is troubling.

Are we in Apple’s post-iPad era?

Macworld

The consensus about the new iPad Pro is in: the hardware is more powerful and impressive than ever, but it’s still largely hampered by software that just hasn’t managed to keep up.

Such has been the story of the iPad Pro almost since its inception almost nine years ago, and despite moves that would seem to augur good things for the platform—like forking iPadOS off from iOS—Apple hasn’t exactly done a bang-up job of assuaging users about its commitment to making the tablet a full-fledged citizen of its lineup.

But zooming out there’s a larger question at play here: what are the long-term prospects of the iPad? Once heralded the ...
