It looks like both Apple and Meta are off the hook for Digital Markets Act (DMA) compliance — for now. Both tech giants won't be required to pay their multi-million dollar fines to the European Union, even if they should miss their compliance requirement.

In April, the European Commission fined Apple 500 million euros, an amount that worked out to roughly $570 million at the time. While it eventually gave Apple a grace period to bring its practices in line with the Digital Markets Act, it threatened to tack on...

Apple software chief Craig Federighi has ruled out bringing macOS to the iPad, amusingly using a kitchen utensil analogy to explain the company's design philosophy. An App Store user is suing Apple because she was duped by a fake cryptocurrency app, neglecting her own role in her choosing to send money to fairly obvious criminals.

No question, Apple's app review team has had failures before. It appears, too, that this new lawsuit is evidence of another one, even as it follows the company's boasting that it protected users from $9 billion in fraud in the last five years.

Cybernews reported on Wednesday on its research that resulted in the online discovery of 30 datasets that include 16 billion records of user login information for “pretty much any online service imaginable,” including Apple, Facebook, and Google.

The records include a URL and login information. Since this data is what is often collected by malware, it appears that these records are a result of numerous infostealer attacks. Cybernews states that the datasets do include overlapping records, but the enormity of the data collection makes it difficult to compare individual records in order to conclude how many users have been exposed.

Aside from the COVID years of 2020 and 2021 when it had to run an online version, Apple has been hosting an annual Apple Camp for children for almost 25 years. Each year has a different focus, but runs as a series of 90-minute sessions over a few weeks in the summer.

This year's theme is Direct Your Own Friendship Film on iPad, and it's for children aged 6-10. That's down from the 8-12 age range of most previous Apple Camps, but the camp is also running for slightly longer than before, at about five weeks.

The display is one of the components that consumes a high amount of power when used. As changes made to the display can greatly affect battery usage, Apple is keen to keep the screen as power-efficient as possible.

The current iPhone 16 Pro models use a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED display, which is designed to conserve power. However, a tweak to the design will help cut its power draw down more.

One of the likely challenges of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air is battery life. Indeed, Apple’s own tests reportedly show that a lot of us wouldn’t make it through the day with the ultra-slim model.
