Apple Claims 'Most Significant Upgrade to...

"There has never been a successful, widespread malware attack against iPhone," notes Apple's security blog, pointing out that "The only system-level iOS attacks we observe in the wild come from mercenary spyware... historically associated with state actors and [using] exploit chains that cost millions of dollars..."

But they're doing something about it — this week announcing a new always-on memory-safety protection in the iPhone 17 lineup and iPhone Air (including the kernel and over 70 userland processes)...

Known mercenary spyware chains used against iOS share a common denominator with those targeting Windows and Android: they exploit memory safety vulnerabilities, which are interchangeable, powerful, and exist throughout the industry... For Apple, improving memory safety is a broad effort that includes developing with safe languages and deploying mitigations at scale...

Our analysis found that, when employed as a real-time defensive measure, the original...

Thieves Busted After Stealing a Cellphone from a...

They stole a woman's phone in Barcelona. Unfortunately, her husband was security consultant/penetration tester Martin Vigo, reports Spain's newspaper El Pais.

"His weeks-long investigation coincided with a massive two-year police operation between 2022 and 2024 in six countries where 17 people were arrested: Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru...."

In Vigo's case, the phone was locked and the "Find my iPhone" feature was activated... Once stolen, the phones are likely wrapped in aluminum foil to prevent the GPS from tracking their movements. "Then they go to a safe house where they are gathered together and shipped on pallets outside of Spain, to Morocco or China." This international step is vital to prevent the phone from being blocked if the thieves try to use it again. Carriers in several European countries share lists of the IMEIs (unique numbers for each device) of stolen devices so they can't be used. But Morocco, for example, doesn't share...

Apple iPhone 17: Summary

  • Apple’s 2025 iPhone lineup was announced at Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, 2025, and includes a brand-new model: the iPhone Air, the slimmest iPhone ever, at just 5.6mm thick (the previous record was 6.9mm with the iPhone 6).
  • Pre-orders started on September 12, 2025. iPhones will begin shipping on September 19, 2025.
  • Pricing hasn’t changed for the iPhone 17, which starts at $799/£799 despite offering twice the storage at 256GB. iPhone Air costs $999/£999, which is $100/£100 more than the iPhone 16 Plus, and the same starting price as the iPhone 16 Pro.
  • The iPhone 17 Pro now starts at $1,099/£1,099, but has double the storage at 256GB. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is $1,199/£1,199, like its predecessor.
  • All new phones are powered by variants of the A19 chip, offer camera upgrades front and back, improved...

The iPhone Air is a stepping stone to something even...

Macworld

If you’re waiting for the first folding iPhone and feel like it will never arrive, don’t worry. Half of it just did, in the form of the iPhone Air. Now we just need to wait for the other half to turn up in 2026.

The so-called iPhone Fold has been rumored for considerably longer than the Air, and the wait has at times been excruciating. The foldables market as a whole is now mature: Samsung kicked things off with the Galaxy Fold more than six years ago, and these days every self-respecting Android manufacturer has a folding phone to offer. But Apple refuses to release a foldable until it can get it right.

That’s a questionable decision, because in many ways the best way to learn how to make...

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 isn’t a big smartwatch–it’s...

Macworld

One thing I love about my Apple Watch Series 9 is how independent it is. I often leave my iPhone behind when heading out for my morning runs, as carrying a phone while exercising can slow me down. Even without cellular, I can still listen to downloaded music, record the workout, view real-time metrics, and pay for water on my way back home.

Even so, it’s still a far cry from my iPhone. Ever since Apple added cellular to the Apple Watch with the Series 3, the dream has been a device that lets us leave our iPhones behind for longer than a short run, but even the just-announced Series 11 doesn’t really get us any closer to that reality. Jef Raskin’s cul-de-sac and the quest for the humane...

Consider the cul-de-sac. It leads off the main street past buildings of might-have-been to a dead-end disconnected from the beaten path. Computing history, of course, is filled with such terminal diversions, most never to be fully realized, and many for good reason. Particularly when it comes to user interfaces and how humans interact with computers, a lot of wild ideas deserved the obscure burials they got.

But some deserved better. Nearly every aspiring interface designer believed the way we were forced to interact with computers was limiting and frustrating, but one man in particular felt the emphasis on design itself missed the forest for the trees. Rather than drowning in visual metaphors or arcane iconographies doomed to be as complex as the systems they represented, the way we deal and interact with computers should stress functionality first, simultaneously considering both what users need to do and the cognitive limits they have. It was no longer enough that an...

The A19, N1, and C1X: The drumbeat of impressive...

Macworld

Though details were scant, Apple introduced several new chips at its “Awe Dropping” iPhone 17 event on Tuesday. There were new A-series processors as expected: the A19 in the iPhone 17 and A19 Pro in the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro. But Apple also quickly announced a new C1X cellular modem and N1 network processor.

We have limited information about these new chips, but here’s what we know so far.

A19 and A19 Pro

The A19 appears only in a single phone, the iPhone 17. Apple says it is made with ”the most advanced 3nm technology,” which probably means TSMC’s latest N3P process. As with the A18, it’s got 6 CPU cores (2 performance, 4 efficiency) and 5 GPU cores.

It’s hard to tell what’s actually improved, and by how much. A new display engine is necessary for ProMotion and always-on display, but it’...

Apple’s new iPhones have a new security feature to...

Macworld

Apple’s new iPhone Air, iPhone 17, and iPhone 17 Pro have an all-new way to protect devices against certain kinds of spyware attacks. It’s called Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE) and Apple has been working on it for about five years, according to the Security Research blog post announcing the feature.

MIE requires new hardware (presumably present in the A19 processors) as well as new low-level operating system memory access systems. With MIE, it should be much harder for sophisticated spyware to crack into targeted iPhones.

Most types of widespread malware are fairly ineffective on iPhones already. Regular security updates, constrained app development and deployment, app signing, and a suite of robust hardware and software security...

Apple’s new AirPods Pro 3 have “new foam-infused ear tips for greater passive noise isolation,” but you don’t need to drop another $249 to get it. These memory foam earbud tips will make your AirPods Pro 2 just as good, and you can get a 3-pack for $18.60 right now, the best price we’ve ever seen.

Our very own AirPods aficionado Jason Cross swears by these, saying the tips make his AirPods Pro 2 more comfortable, more secure, and better sounding. They usually retail for around $22, so the savings here isn’t huge, but it’s still a great price.

These earbud tips attach just like Apple’s tips. Just pop off the regular silicone ones and pop a pair of these Comply tips right on the earpiece. They come in three sizes, just like any other earbud tips, but they offer better...

There’s a lot of new Apple stuff. Here’s what’s...

Macworld

Last Tuesday was an expensive day. Apple event day is always an expensive day. New iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods Pro made their debut, and this means that on September 19, many of us will be taking delivery of new Apple stuff. (The larger-than-normal credit-card bill comes later.)

Just because Apple’s selling lots of new stuff doesn’t mean you need to buy it all. (Who needs four new iPhones every year?!) But when it comes to upgrades, some products really jump out at me as more impressive and intriguing than others.

iPhone Air versus iPhone 17 Pro

You usually know what kind of iPhone you want. Pro goes to Pro, Pro Max to Pro Max, regular iPhone to regular iPhone, and iPhone mini and iPhone Plus to… the seven stages of grief, I guess. But this year’s offerings provide a twist, with two phones that both can viably claim to be the right upgrade for people coming from a previous iPhone Pro model...

Apple’s satellite service is still free–but for how...

Macworld

Back when the iPhone 14 launched in 2022, it included a new feature that let you tap into Globalstar satellite networks to get service when stranded outside of cellular coverage. At the time, the service was free for users in the U.S. and Canada with a two-year trial.

A year later, Apple expanded the service to 16 countries and added an extra year of coverage to align with the launch of the iPhone 15. That coverage was supposed to end this month, but Apple has announced that users of those phones will get another free year of service, extending to September 9, 2026.

Apple also announced satellite communication on the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which will be free for two years. The same goes for the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and Air, as well as the iPhone 16 and 16e. Here’s when the trial periods end for the various devices:

iPhones 17 and the Sugar Water Trap

Analyst Ben Thompson, commenting on Apple's outlook following the launch of the iPhone 17 lineup: Apple, to be fair, isn't selling the same sugar water year-after-year in a zero sum war with other sugar water companies. Their sugar water is getting better, and I think this year's seasonal concoction is particularly tasty. What is inescapable, however, is that while the company does still make new products -- I definitely plan on getting new AirPod Pro 3s! -- the company has, in the pursuit of easy profits, constrained the space in which it innovates.

That didn't matter for a long time: smartphones were the center of innovation, and Apple was consequently the center of the tech universe. Now, however, Apple is increasingly on the periphery, and I think that, more than anything, is what bums people out: no, Apple may not be a sugar water purveyor, but they are farther than they have been in years from changing the world.

Apple's most famous chips are the A- and M-series processors that power its iPhones, iPads, and Macs, but this year, its effort to build its own wireless chips is starting to bear fruit. Earlier this spring, the iPhone 16e included Apple's C1 modem, furthering Apple's ambitions to shed its dependence on Qualcomm, and today's iPhone Air brought a faster Apple C1X variant, plus something new: the Apple N1, a chip that provides Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support for all of today's new iPhones.

Apple didn't dive deep into the capabilities of the N1, or why it had switched from using third-party suppliers (historically, Apple has mostly leaned on Broadcom for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth). However, the company's press releases say that it should make Continuity features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop more reliable—these features use Bluetooth for initial communication and then...

Hands-on with Apple’s new iPhones: Beauty and the...

CUPERTINO, Calif.—We're a long way from the days when a new iPhone launch just meant one new phone. It shifted to "basically the same phone in two sizes" a decade or so ago, and then to a version of "one lineup of regular phones and one lineup of Pro phones" in 2017 when the iPhone 8 was introduced next to the iPhone X.

But thanks to Apple's newly introduced iPhone Air, the iPhone 17 lineup gives new phone buyers more choices and trade-offs than they've ever had before. Apple's phones are now available in a spectrum of sizes, weights, speeds, costs, and camera configurations. And while options are great to have, it also means you need to know more about which one to pick.

We've gone hands-on with all four of Apple's new phones, and while more extensive tire-kicking will be required, we can at least try to nail down exactly what kind of person each of these phones is for.

Apple Adds Hypertension and Sleep-Quality Monitoring...

Apple's new Watch lineup introduces blood pressure monitoring, sleep scoring, and upgraded hardware across the Series 11 ($399), Ultra 3 ($799), and SE 3 ($249). Ars Technica reports: The Apple Watch 11 is supposed to be able to alert users about "possible hypertension" by using data from an optical heart rate sensor "to analyze how a user's blood vessels respond to the beats of the heart," per its announcement. According to Apple's presentation, the smartwatch will look for chronic hypertension over 30-day periods. Apple's presentation noted that the Watch Series 11 won't be able to identify all hypertension, but the company said that it expects to notify over 1 million people with undiagnosed hypertension during the feature's first year of availability. The feature is based on machine-learning and training data built from multiple studies examining over 100,000 people combined, Apple noted. Apple said it expects the blood pressure monitoring feature to receive Food and Drug...

AirPods Pro 3 Arrive With Heart-Rate Sensing, Live...

Apple has unveiled the AirPods Pro 3 with heart-rate sensing, improved noise cancellation, a more compact case, and upcoming live translation features powered by Apple Intelligence. They'll be available for preorder today at a price of $249. TechCrunch reports: One of the standout features of the AirPods Pro 3 is its heart-rate sensing capability, a first for the AirPods line. This addition will operate similarly to the Powerbeats Pro 2, using LED sensors to provide precise measurements. The collected data will sync with Apple's Fitness app. The active noise cancellation, which reduces external noise, has been significantly improved. Apple says it removes twice the noise compared to Pro 2.

A noteworthy upcoming feature is a live translation capability, thanks to Apple's iOS 26 software update. This lets you have conversations in different languages, using your iPhone to translate while the phone plays one language and the AirPods handle the other. Other notable updates...

Apple Launches iPhone 17 Lineup Featuring Ultra-Thin...

Apple has unveiled its iPhone 17 lineup, introducing three distinct models targeting different market segments. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max feature an aluminum unibody design incorporating a vapor chamber for thermal management, enabling the A19 Pro chip to deliver 40% better sustained performance than its predecessor. Both Pro models include three 48MP cameras offering 8x optical zoom -- the longest in an iPhone -- and an 18MP Center Stage front camera.

The standard iPhone 17 gains ProMotion display technology previously exclusive to Pro models, along with dual 48MP rear cameras and the Center Stage system. Apple introduced iPhone Air as the thinnest iPhone at 5.6mm, built on a titanium frame housing the A19 Pro, N1 wireless, and C1X cellular chips. All models feature Ceramic Shield 2 protection offering three times better scratch resistance than previous generations. The iPhone 17 starts at $799 with 256GB storage, iPhone Air at $999, iPhone 17 Pro at $1,099, and Pro...

iPhone 17 Air is real—here’s what’s new in Apple’s...

An incoming new iPhone model called the iPhone Air has been one of the worst-kept secrets in tech lately, and now Apple has confirmed it at its annual iPhone reveal event.

The 6.5-inch iPhone 17 Air combines the CPU and GPU of an iPhone Pro with the camera system of a regular iPhone, all in an extra-thin design (5.6 mm), with a treated titanium frame that is likely to appeal to style-conscious users and some business consumers.

Like the iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Air has a ProMotion display with a variable refresh rate up to 120 Hz—something that was reserved for only the Pro iPhones up until this year. The Air's display also has always-on functionality and claims 3,000 nits of peak brightness. It has Apple's new Ceramic Shield 2 protective coating on both the front and the back, which the company claims will make it more durable and anti-reflective.

iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, and Apple’s other...

CUPERTINO, Calif.—If you’re buying one of the new iPhones or the other hardware that Apple announced today, your new devices will ship with Apple’s latest operating system updates already installed. But if you’re not looking to spend a bunch of money on Apple’s latest and greatest, the new updates will land on Apple’s other supported devices on September 15.

Apple is shifting to a year-based numbering system starting this year, wiping away the previous grab bag of all-over-the-place version numbers. No corner of Apple’s ecosystem is going untouched: we’re getting iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, and even version 26 of whatever Apple is calling the HomePod’s software these days, all on the same day.

The headliner across all of the updates is Apple’s new “Liquid Glass” UI overhaul, which adds glass-inspired transparency and translucency and bouncy animations throughout all of Apple’s software. Inspired in part by the way that UI...

Apple “started from scratch” to design all-new...

CUPERTINO, Calif.—Apple's basic iPhone 17 is the one most people will use, and the new iPhone Air will get attention for its thin design and novelty. But the iPhone Pro series is still the absolute best the company has to offer, and that continues to be true of the new iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max that Apple announced today.

The new phones start at $1,099 and $1,199 for the Pro and Pro Max, respectively, each with 256GB of storage. Preorders start this Friday, and the phones will be available on September 19.

While the best feature of the iPhone 17 is its screen, the screens are virtually the only thing not to be overhauled for the iPhone 17 Pro, though they do get the more scratch-resistant, anti-reflective Ceramic Shield 2 coating. The new designs have a new aluminum unibody enclosure, with a glass cutout on the back to allow for wireless charging and a huge new camera bump that Apple calls the "camera plateau," stretching all the way across the back.

Apple introduces AirPods Pro 3 with live translation...

Apple's popular AirPods Pro in-ear headphones are getting a substantial upgrade. The new model, dubbed AirPods Pro 3, greatly improves active noise cancellation (ANC), performs live translations, and tracks your heart rate like a fitness wearable.

This will have to be subjected to third-party testing, but Apple made some intriguing claims about AirPods Pro 3's performance during its iPhone and Apple Watch announcement today. Namely, that they'll have twice the ANC performance as AirPods Pro 2 and four times as much as the original AirPods Pro.

Additionally, Apple claims that voices will sound "more natural" in Transparency, the mode meant to allow nearby sounds to be heard even while you have the earbuds in. Those who've used earlier iterations of Transparency will likely note that voices can sound a little bit filtered, so that could be a nice-to-have improvement.

All 54 lost clickwheel iPod games have now been...

Last year, we reported on the efforts of classic iPod fans to preserve playable copies of the downloadable clickwheel games that Apple sold for a brief period in the late '00s. The community was working to get around Apple's onerous FairPlay DRM by having people who still owned original copies of those (now unavailable) games sync their accounts to a single iTunes installation via a coordinated Virtual Machine. That "master library" would then be able to provide playable copies of those games to any number of iPods in perpetuity.

At the time, the community was still searching for iPod owners with syncable copies of the last few titles needed for their library. With...

Apple's Vision Pro Gaining Traction in Some...

Apple's $3,500 Vision Pro is finding real traction in niche enterprise use, like CAE's pilot training, Lowe's kitchen design visualization, and Dassault's engineering workflows. "Over the last few weeks, I had an opportunity to try out some of those applications, and they are game-changers, albeit within their specific domains," writes Steven Rosenbush via the Wall Street Journal. "Companies should pay attention now to what's going on in these niche markets. Based on what I saw, these systems are having an impact on the way users integrate content development and engineering, which has implications for the way companies approach roles, teams and workflow." From the report: Home-improvement retailer Lowe's has deployed the Vision Pro at five locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and five locations in the Austin, Texas area. Customers use them to visualize how design ideas will look in their actual kitchen. The company plans to scale the effort to 100 of approximately 1,700 stores...

What to expect (and not expect) from yet another...

Apple's next product event is happening on September 9, and while the company hasn't technically dropped any hints about what's coming, anyone with a working memory and a sense of object permanence can tell you that an Apple event in the month of September means next-generation iPhones.

Apple's flagship phones have changed in mostly subtle ways since 2022's iPhone 14 Pro added the Dynamic Island and 2023's refreshes switched from Lightning to USB-C. Chips get gradually faster, cameras get gradually better, but Apple hasn't done a seismic iPhone X-style rethinking of its phones since, well, 2017's iPhone X.

The rumor mill thinks that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone—and such a device would certainly benefit from years of investment in the iPad...

WhatsApp Fixes 'Zero-Click' Bug Used To...

An anonymous reader quotes a report from TechCrunch: WhatsApp said on Friday that it fixed a security bug in its iOS and Mac apps that was being used to stealthily hack into the Apple devices of "specific targeted users." The Meta-owned messaging app giant said in its security advisory that it fixed the vulnerability, known officially as CVE-2025-55177, which was used alongside a separate flaw found in iOS and Macs, which Apple fixed last week and tracks as CVE-2025-43300.

Apple said at the time that the flaw was used in an "extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals." Now we know that dozens of WhatsApp users were targeted with this pair of flaws. Donncha O Cearbhaill, who heads Amnesty International's Security Lab, described the attack in a post on X as an "advanced spyware campaign" that targeted users over the past 90 days, or since the end of May. O Cearbhaill described the pair of bugs as a "zero-click" attack, meaning it does not require any...

The document states the UK Home Office order "is not limited to" ADP data and applies "globally in respect of the relevant data categories of all iCloud users."

The filing emerged days after Trump administration officials claimed the UK had agreed to drop efforts targeting American citizens' data. Apple launched its legal challenge in March after receiving the TCN, which the company cannot discuss publicly under the Investigatory Powers Act. The tribunal scheduled a hearing for early next year. Apple withdrew ADP from UK customers in February.

700-piece Lego G3 iMac design faces long-shot odds...

I don't usually get too excited about user-submitted designs on the Lego Ideas website, especially when those ideas would require negotiating a license with another company—user-generated designs need to reach 10,000 supporters before Lego considers them for production, two pretty high bars to clear even without factoring in some other brand's conditions and requests.

But I'm both intrigued and impressed by this Lego version of Apple's old Bondi Blue G3 iMac that has been making the rounds today. Submitted by a user named terauma, the 700-plus-piece set comes complete with keyboard, hockey-puck mouse, a classic Mac OS boot screen, and cathode ray tubes and circuit boards visible through the set's transparent blue casing (like the original iMac, it may cause controversy by excluding a floppy disk drive). The design has already reached 5,000 supporters, and it has 320 days left to...

Apple Warns UK Against Introducing Tougher Tech...

Apple has warned that "EU-style rules" proposed by the UK competition watchdog "are bad for users and bad for developers." From a report: It says EU laws -- which have sought to make it easier for smaller firms to compete with big tech -- have resulted in some Apple features and enhancements being delayed for European users. It argues the UK risks similar hold-ups if the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) pushes ahead with plans designed to open up markets the regulator says is too dominated by Apple and Google.

[...] The CMA wants UK app makers to be able to use and exchange data with Apple's mobile technology -- something called "interoperability." Without it, app makers cannot create the full range of innovative products and services, it argues. Apple claims under EU interoperability rules it has received over 100 requests -- some from big tech rivals -- demanding access to sensitive user data, including sensitive information Apple itself cannot access. It argues...

Parallels Desktop 26 offers a lot to enterprise...

The new version of Mac virtual machine software Parallels Desktop, which is most often used to run Windows applications on modern Macs, has just arrived. Parallels Desktop 26 has a lot to offer to the enterprise, but for most end users, it's a pretty minor upgrade mainly meant to prepare for the upcoming launch of the next version of macOS.

(It's worth noting that the "26" for this release represents a new versioning scheme meant to map closely to how Apple is now labeling its own operating system releases.)

With this release, the Parallels teams touts built-in support for the upcoming major OS releases from Apple and Microsoft: macOS 26 Tahoe and Windows 11 25H2. That includes changes to make Parallels play nice with macOS 26's new background process restrictions, particularly for Coherence mode.

Apple Discussed Buying Mistral AI and Perplexity

According to The Information, Apple executives have debated acquiring Mistral AI and Perplexity to strengthen its AI capabilities. MacRumors reports: Services chief Eddy Cue is apparently the most vocal advocate of a deal to buy AI firms to bolster the company's offerings. Cue previously supported propositions of Apple acquiring Netflix and Tesla, both of which Apple CEO Tim Cook turned down. Other executives such as software chief Craig Federighi have reportedly been reluctant to acquire AI startups, believing that Apple can build its own AI technology in-house. [...]

Apple is said to be hesitant to do a deal, which would likely cost billions of dollars. Apple has rarely spent more than a hundred million dollars on an acquisition, with Beats at $3 billion and Intel's wireless modem business at $1 billion. Apple is hosting its next product event on Tuesday, September 9, at 10 am Pacific and 1 pm Eastern, the company announced today. Rumors about this year's iPhones point to a more significant redesign than in recent years, though Apple isn't (yet?) ready to jump into the world of foldable phones. In addition to new, wider camera areas that span the backs of the devices, the most reliable rumors suggest we'll be getting a new "iPhone Air" that prioritizes thinness and lightness. MacOS 26 Tahoe’s Dead-Canary Utility App Icons

MacOS has shipped with a collection of “utility” apps since the prehistoric era of classic Mac OS. A good rule of thumb for what makes an app a “utility” is that it’s a tool for doing something to or about your computer. Ever since Mac OS X 10.0, most of these apps have been neatly filed away in /Applications/Utilities/. Others — some because they’re obscure (e.g. Ticket Viewer), some because they’re effectively deprecated (e.g. DVD Player, whose copyright date in MacOS 15 Sequoia is 2019), and some because they present themselves, when launched, not as apps but as system-level features (e.g. About This Mac) — are tucked away in /System/Library/CoreServices/ or /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/.

Basic Apple Guy posted a screenshot to Mastodon comparing the current MacOS 15 icons for four of these utilities (Disk Utility, Expansion Slot Utility,...

Shi allegedly sent a message to Oppo saying that he was working to "collect as much information as possible" before starting his job. Sara Fischer, Axios:

MSNBC, the progressive cable network owned by NBCUniversal, is

The rebrand is part of a wider effort by NBCU to create a
distinction between the cable networks it plans to spin out and

cable networks that will be spun out into Versant, including
CNBC, Golf Channel, GolfNow, MSNBC and SportsEngine, will all

NBCU’s logo.

There’s a lot to unpack here. First, “Versant” itself is a pretty bad name (feels so vague — seems like the name of a fake company in a movie or TV show) so it’s no surprise that the same nitwits are botching...

How to Use iPhone Mirroring With More Than One iPhone

I’ve been using two iPhones throughout the summer — one running iOS 18, the other running iOS 26 betas. I found myself wanting to switch between them with iPhone Mirroring on my Mac, but couldn’t figure out how. The answer, from Apple Support, “iPhone Mirroring: Use your iPhone from your Mac”:

If you have more than one iPhone that is both signed in to your

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Desktop &

  2. Choose your iPhone from the iPhone pop-up menu on the right.
This menu appears just below the “Use iPhone widgets” setting.
It appears only when your Mac detects more than one nearby

Hands On: Toca Hair Salon 2 (iOS)

Makeover apps tend to be somewhat serious, and are generally geared toward adults. Instead of being a fun game, they tend to be more akin to photo-editing software, which is generally pretty complex and low on the amusement scale. Toca Boca, however, has stepped forth with Toca Hair Salon 2, a makeover game that offers a lot to younger gamers or future beauticians....

LA schools' iPad program flawed from beginning...

The Los Angeles Unified School District's failed iPad deployment was botched early on, according to a review by the US Education Department. Hands On: PhotoWatermark (OS X)

It's a different world. You might be the sort who would never take photo from a website and use it in your own book, but today if an image is online, it's as if the world sees it as fair game. Maybe that's a peek into our base immorality and the ultimate cataclysmic self-destruction of humanity, or maybe it's just that cut and paste is easy. Whatever it is, though, it's happening and you cannot stop it – not even with an application like this: but if PhotoWatermark can't prevent the copying of images, it can help photographers and artists considerably by adding identifying text to your image...

Multiple reports point to record-breaking Apple...

While the idea that Apple probably had another record-breaking holiday quarter (what the company calls fiscal 2015 Q1) is unsurprising to all but selected pundits, a spate of reports released on Monday may be painting a general portrait of not just significant improvement, but more importantly growth in key areas of importance both to investors and analysis as well as to the health of the company. Sales of Macs look to be way up, iOS devices are selling much better in a key foreign market, and Apple's suppliers are flourishing -- all signs that point to better-than-expected quarter....
