Content creators and artists have been suffering for years, with AI companies scraping their sited and scanning books to train large language models (LLMs) without permission. Across social media, iPhone owners are complaining that their Wallet app sent out a push notification offering a $10 discount at Fandango for anyone buying two or more tickets to the film.
The feature film, starring Brad Pitt, explores the world of Formula 1 and was shot at actual Grand Prix races. It also showcases the use of Apple technology, from the custom-made cameras made of iPhone parts used to film inside the cars, to the AirPods Max that Pitt's character, F1 driver Sonny Hayes, sleeps in. However well-received the film may be, iPhone users don't necessarily want their built-in utilities, like their digital wallet, marketing to them.

One of the most common blind spots in small business security is access management for various company resources. Today’s IT teams are moving fast (and often understaffed), solving customer problems, and juggling shifting responsibilities as the business grows and evolves. Many SMBs also don’t have a dedicated IT team. They might be fixing things by committee or just trusting that vendors have these problems solved. Apple put out one early beta build of all of its new operating systems after its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote a couple of weeks ago—these updates are the first to standardize on year-based version numbering, making them all version 26—and today the company has formally released the second developer betas of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and most of its other updates.
For those who don't normally dabble in Apple's beta programs, the company offers two tracks: a...

Apple's iPhone came out 18 years ago and...
Compared to today's iPhone 16 Pro Max and what we know of the forthcoming iPhone 17 range, the very first iPhone that went on sale 18 years ago today was startlingly slow and incredibly limited — yet it changed the world.
Apple's iPhone has come a long way since the original version in 2007
It was on June 29, 2007, that the original iPhone went on sale in the US, and arguably that was the day that it truly began shaking up what users expected from a phone.
We and the phone industry had already known all about it for over five months. But it wasn't until you could buy it that the impact of this little device began to be felt — even inside Apple.

Apple has quietly removed its day-old "The Parent Presentation" video from YouTube. Apple Adds Energy and Battery Labels To iPhone and...
An anonymous reader quotes a report from MacRumors: To comply with a new regulation that takes effect today, Apple has added an energy efficiency label to its iPhone and iPad pages in EU countries. Apple is also required to start including a printed version of the label with the devices sold there. The label grades a given iPhone or iPad model's energy efficiency from a high of A to a low of G, based on the EU's testing parameters. However, Apple said that certain aspects of the testing methods outlined by the European Commission are "ambiguous," so it chose to be conservative with its scores until testing is standardized.
In a 44-page document (PDF) detailing its testing methodology for the labels, Apple said its current iPhone models qualified for the highest energy efficiency grade of A, but the company voluntarily downgraded these scores to a B as a cautionary measure. The label also provides details about a given iPhone or iPad model's battery life per full charge cycle...

Apple Sued By Shareholders For Allegedly Overstating...
Apple is facing a proposed class-action lawsuit from shareholders who allege the company misled investors about the readiness of its AI-powered Siri upgrades, contributing to a $900 billion drop in market value. Reuters reports: Shareholders led by Eric Tucker said that at its June 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple led them to believe AI would be a key driver of iPhone 16 devices, when it launched Apple Intelligence to make Siri more powerful and user-friendly. But they said the Cupertino, California-based company lacked a functional prototype of AI-based Siri features, and could not reasonably believe the features would ever be ready for iPhone 16s.
Shareholders said the truth began to emerge on March 7 when Apple delayed some Siri upgrades to 2026, and continued through this year's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9 when Apple's assessment of its AI progress disappointed analysts. Apple shares have lost nearly one-fourth of their value since their December...

RIP IEEE 1394: macOS Tahoe drops FireWire support,...
Macworld
Technology is always moving forward, which often means old technology gets left behind. For example, NekoMichiUBC on X has discovered that the macOS Tahoe beta lacks support for FireWire. That means that legacy devices, such as the original and 2nd-generation iPod, storage devices. cameras, and more won’t work with Macs running Tahoe.
It’s actually impressive that Apple has supported FireWire for so long, since Apple tends to drop old tech in a few years. Known by the standard name of IEEE 1394 (FireWire is Apple’s branding), Apple led its development in the late 1980s as a solution for devices that needed high-speed connectivity. In the 2000s, USB became popular and FireWire ports on Macs...

Apple revealed its plans for the next version of macOS at the WWDC keynote on Monday June 9, 2025. The company also showed off new features for the next iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and more at the event.
Like its counterparts on the other Apple devices, macOS is getting a brand new look for 2025-2026 along with a new name. Apple’s cheeky ‘Parent Presentation’ helps kids make...
Macworld
For high school seniors in the U.S., graduation season is coming to a close. [Personal note: congrats to my niece! Way to go!] That means the start of college isn’t far off and it’s time to get ready for the next step in an academic career. That usually involves investing in a computer, and companies offer deals for new college students, including Apple.
The competition for your dollars is fierce, and Apple wants to help new college students persuade parents into buying a Mac. The company has just released The Parent Presentation, a set of slides with content that has all the reasons why you should buy a Mac: they’re durable and powerful enough to last “through college and beyond,” and they maintain their value.
The slides are customizable, so students can add their content, and Apple also includes suggestions as to what...

New & questionable leak points to iPhone 17...
A well-known leaker with a questionable track record claims that Apple could release the iPhone 17 in two new colors.
On Friday, Leaker Majin Bu announced that Apple is currently testing iPhone 17 base model colorways. This time around, it seems as though Apple may be planning on going with a pastel green and purple.
From the images shared by Bu, the purple appears to be pretty similar to what we saw with the iPhone 11 lineup. The green, however, is more saturated than the light green iPhone 15 and skews more towards yellow than the mint green iPhone 12.

macOS Tahoe review -- glossy changes mask genuine...
The Liquid Glass look of the new macOS Tahoe is the first thing a user sees, but the appearance isn't only aesthetic, it comes with new features and improves existing ones.
The optional translucent look for the Mac is pleasing, but macOS Tahoe brings much more than gloss
In previous years, Apple has sometimes dialled back its macOS changes between the first developer beta and its eventual public release. But even the earliest look at a new macOS brings most of what it will be like to use as official operating system of the Mac.
So while details may change, and there are clear areas where improvement is needed, it's already possible to say that macOS Tahoe is a step forward for the Mac. It may not be the enormous leap that Apple claims, or as big an improvement as has come to...

Apple has pushed its iPad platform further than ever with iPadOS 26, and it goes well beyond a redesign. Here are five features that could make an iPad your next computer replacement.
iPadOS 26 is a big productivity boost with new windowing and files management
There has been a lot of debate around iPad's place in Apple's lineup, especially since the iPad Pro first appeared in 2015. After a lot of updates tried to bring iPad closer to the Mac experience without replacing it with macOS entirely, iPadOS 26 takes the biggest step yet.
Here are five features that take iPad from a possible computer replacement to a definite option for many users.

It wasn't just you, Apple Intelligence was down
Apple Intelligence went into a perpetual update loop for many users on Thursday, causing the old Siri animation to appear and on-device tools to stop working.
On-device doesn't mean outages aren't possible thanks to OTA updates
Issues surrounding Apple Intelligence have been cropping up throughout the day Thursday, and it may be due to a botched backend push from Apple. Users began noticing the lack of on-device Apple Intelligence early Thursday, and issues have continued propagating across devices and regions.
There's nothing on Apple's system status page that would indicate there are any issues, though there isn't a section for Apple Intelligence. AppleInsider reached out to Apple about the issue and has been told they are looking into it.

There’s a hidden Siri chatbot in iOS 26. Here’s how...
Macworld
Apple is reportedly giving Siri a Large Language Model (LLM) upgrade in a year or two. The boost is expected to make the iPhone’s virtual assistant more conversational and equip it with a broader range of world knowledge. What most users don’t know is that the iOS 26 beta already introduces a hidden AI chatbot that testers can try right away.
For reasons I’ll clarify later on, iOS 26 neither offers a dedicated app for Apple’s LLM chatbot, nor bakes it into the default Siri experience. I came across the veiled interface while exploring the updated Apple Shortcuts app. To try it out, you’ll have to build your own shortcut using iOS 26 developer beta.
Before we get started…
Before delving into Apple’s AI chatbot and its capabilities, there are a few matters you must keep in mind:

Attention Safari users: Here are 8 reasons to switch...
Macworld
Apple users can be a pretty loyal bunch, often sticking to Apple-branded hardware and apps while giving third-party alternatives the cold shoulder. But sometimes it’s worth looking outside the walled garden. For example, Google Chrome is immensely popular, taking the lion’s share of the global browser market and dominating the competition. That’s not without good reason, and if you’ve faithfully stuck with Safari over the years, you might be curious about what Chrome has to offer.
The answer, it turns out, is quite a lot. From an extensive arsenal of extensions to rapid security updates, there are plenty of reasons why Safari users should consider switching to Google’s browser:
Chrome has better extension support
Extensions are the lifeblood of a web browser, helping to enhance its capabilities in ways far beyond the usual capabilities. If there’s some sort of extra functionality you want to add to your...
