Dynamic Island Only Visible in iPhone 14 Pro Screenshots W...

A key new feature of iPhone 14 Pro models is the Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped area that replaces the notch on previous models. Aided by software, the Dynamic Island morphs into different shapes and sizes for things such as incoming phone calls, alerts, notifications, Face ID authentication, timers, and more. Dynamic Island will also integrate with Live Activities in third-party apps starting later this year.

One smaller detail that we have now confirmed is that the Dynamic Island is only visible in screenshots taken on iPhone 14 Pro models while it is being used by apps, or when the camera/microphone indicator dots are active. The screenshot shows the entire Dynamic Island, including any added elements, such as a circular timer icon.

On the other hand, the Dynamic Island does not appear in screenshots when it is completely inactive. In this case, the screenshot simply shows the...

Reviews for the iPhone 14 Pro and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max have been published, offering a more detailed look at Apple's new high-end phones and all they have to offer, including an always-on display.

One detail confirmed today by the reviews is that the always-on display features no customization features, as it only displays a tinted version of a user's iOS 16 Lock Screen wallpaper, widgets, and Live Activities, if any are actively running. Users can't customize the always-on display, such as what information it chooses or whether it shows a darkened wallpaper or a black background.

Users can, however, disable the always-on display entirely from within the Display and Brightness section of Settings. Reviewers noted that it's too early to tell whether or not the always-on display has a material impact on battery life, so we'll have to wait a few weeks...

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models will begin arriving to customers and launch in stores this Friday, September 16, and ahead of time, the first reviews of the devices have now been shared by select media publications and YouTube channels.

Emergency SOS via Satellite is not launching until November, so the feature was not available for review yet.

The only differences between the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max relate to their respective 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes, battery life, and the weight of the devices, as the Pro and Pro Max once again have identical camera systems this year.

Apple's future M3 chip for Macs and A17 chip for iPhone 15 Pro models will be manufactured based on TSMC's enhanced 3nm process known as N3E next year, according to a new report from Nikkei Asia. The devices are expected to launch throughout 2023.

N3E will offer improved performance and power efficiency compared to TSMC's first-generation 3nm process known as N3, according to the report.

In the meantime, the report claims that Apple plans to use TSMC's first-generation 3nm process for some of its upcoming iPad chips. The update will be available for all iPhone 14 models launching this Friday and simply represents the final version of iOS 16 with build number 20A362 that was released earlier this week for other iPhone models. Apple's initial batch of iPhone 14 models ship with an earlier build of iOS 16, which is why an update will be available immediately.

Apple Shares Tips for Charging Apple Watch Ultra With MagS...

In a support document updated today, Apple says customers who have an Apple Watch Ultra or another larger Apple Watch model with a 44mm, 45mm, or 49mm case size might need to adjust the angle of the MagSafe Duo Charger or lay it completely flat in order to ensure the charger makes a proper connection with the Apple Watch.

If an Apple Watch Ultra still won't connect reliably to the MagSafe Duo Charger, Apple says to try removing the watch's band before placing the watch on the charger.

As noted by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman last week, the Apple Watch Ultra is not included in the list of devices compatible with the MagSafe Duo Charger, likely due to its larger 49mm case size and bulkier design making it a poor fit. Apps That Have Added iOS 16 Lock Screen Widget Support

Apple in iOS 16 introduced a customizable Lock Screen, complete with widgets. You can have up to five separate widgets on your Lock Screen, including four below the time and one above the time. There are several widgets available from Apple for apps like Weather, Calendar, Clock, Fitness, and Reminders, but third-party app developers are also able to create widgets for the Lock Screen.

We've rounded up a bunch of third-party apps that have implemented widget support as of today, so you can see some of the widget options available to you. Note that if you're planning on getting an iPhone 14 Pro, widgets will be available even when your screen is off thanks to the Always-On display.

Apple Now Provides Release Notes for AirPods Firmware Upda...

As expected, Apple has published a new support document with release notes for standard AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max firmware updates. Going forward, Apple says the page will outline new features and changes included in AirPods firmware updates.

The latest firmware version for AirPods is 4E71 and was released in May. Sadly, Apple's support document is not particularly helpful for this version, with the release notes only mentioning "bug fixes and other improvements," without any specific details. Hopefully the release notes are more detailed for future firmware versions.

On an iPhone updated to iOS 16, a link to Apple's support document for AirPods firmware updates can be found by opening the Settings app, navigating to...

After installing iOS 16, attempting an app update directs affected users to a new Terms and Conditions page. When accepting the Terms and Conditions, it loads momentarily and then pops up an error alert. "There was an error. Please try later," reads the notification.

Apple's servers may be having problems at the current time, which is likely what's leading to the error message. There is no word yet on when the problem will be fixed, and it does not appear to be affecting all users.

There Is No iPhone 14 Mini: Here's Why

The iPhone 14 lineup is the first iPhone series to not include a display size below six inches, despite sticking with the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch form factors of previous generations that included a 5.4-inch model. So why did Apple eliminate the "mini" device that some ‌iPhone‌ customers had come to love?

Apple debuted the iPhone 12 mini in 2020 following years of calls from ‌iPhone‌ fans for the company to offer a small-screen device with the latest features. When Apple did so, it was assumed that the small form factor would persist for several years – but it appears that the device has come to a premature end upon the release of the ‌iPhone 14‌ lineup.

Concerns first arose when the ‌iPhone 12 mini‌ appeared to not be selling as well as Apple had hoped, making up just six percent of...

Developers and public beta testers have spent the past few months trying out the new versions while Apple has been refining them, and a full public release is now right around the corner...at least for ‌iOS 16‌.

On ‌‌iPhone‌‌, ‌‌iOS 16‌‌ includes a completely overhauled Lock Screen with extensive personalization features and widgets. There are new Focus filters, Passkeys, Safari Shared Tab Groups, and more.

‌‌iPadOS 16‌‌ gets a Weather app for the first time, and also offers a range of "pro" features that are exclusive to ‌‌iPad‌‌ models with the...

You Can Now Play the Classic Game 'Quake' on App...

Popular 1996 shooter Quake 1 has been ported to all kinds of devices, and now it's even able to run on the Apple Watch. YouTuber MyOwnClone in late August ported Quake to the Apple Watch Series 5, with the game offering touch screen and Digital Crown controls.

In a post on Hacker News, MyOwnClone explains that he built the port on top of existing ports for iOS and Mac, with lots of tweaks to get it to work within the watchOS framework. It runs at 60 frames per second with a 640x480 resolution, and it can run at a higher resolution with a lower framerate.

The port is available on GitHub, with a demonstration and more information on the build process available on YouTube. Installing the game on an Apple Watch will require code compiling with a Mac, Xcode, and the copyrighted Quake assets.

"Add this to the new 48MP Pro camera and a totally reimagined display, and iPhone 14 Pro redefines what a smartphone can do. Again."

With a new dual-core accelerometer, barometer, and other sensors, Apple says iPhone 14 Pro models can detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services if a user is unresponsive after a 10-second countdown. Apple says the feature relies on "advanced...

Apple Seeds Seventh Beta of macOS 13 Ventura to Developers

Apple today seeded the seventh beta of macOS 13 Ventura, the next-generation version of the Mac operating system that's set to launch this fall. The seventh beta comes two weeks after Apple provided the sixth beta to developers.

Registered developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center and once the appropriate profile is installed, betas will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences.

Garmin has reacted to Apple's new rugged Apple Watch Ultra, saying in a tweet following the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch event that it measures battery life in "months" and "not hours," promoting its latest Enduro 2 watch for athletes.

The tweet attempts to highlight how compared to the Apple Watch Ultra, Garmin's Enduro 2 can last for months rather than hours. The Apple Watch Ultra has the longest battery life of any Apple Watch to date, with Apple promising up to 36 hours of normal use and up to 60 hours with watchOS 9's new Low Power Mode setting and other optimizations.
