ProtectStar iLocker Update available to Password-Control Apps on...
ProtectStar has updated iLocker for Mac to version 1.0.1. The app allows users of shared Macs password protect any app on their computer's hard drive. Parents can drag and drop apps or files into the iLocker window, set a password, and their selections are protected from unauthorized access by their offspring. Smile has released PDFpen 3 and PDFpen Pro 3 for macOS (10.11 and higher). They’re PDF editing apps that allow you to sync documents between devices for editing via iCloud Drive, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneNote. Apple rolls out Safari 11 for macOS
Along with a plethora of other updates, Apple has rolled out Safari 11, an update of its web browser for macOS (Sierra and the upcoming High Sierra). It’s a free update at the Mac App Store. watchOS 4 now available for download

Typinator is ready for macOS High Sierra
Ergonis Software has announced Typinator 7.3, a maintenance update to their text expander. It’s not only a typing assistant that speeds repetitive typing tasks, but also a system-wide auto-correction tool that automatically fixes typing errors and misspelled words. Version 7.3 comes with more than 40 enhancements and is compatible with the upcoming macOS High Sierra, which is due next week. Typinator 7.3 requires macOS 10.6 or higher. It can be purchased on the Ergonis Software website (www.ergonis.com). The upgrade to Typinator 7.3 is free for Typinator 7 license owners and for anyone who purchased a license for Typinator 6 on or after Jan. 1, 2016. StatGeek announces LineUp, LineUp Pro for the Mac
StatGeek has announced Lineup and Lineup Plus for the Mac. They allow users to produce advanced basketball statistics along with statistics on 5-man groups, 2-man groups and 3-man groups in seconds. Each program works off play-by-play data produced by any number of statistics programs, including StatGeek’s own iPad app. Lineup produces advanced statistics such as effective field goal percentage, true shooting percentage and efficiency along with five-man lineup data. Lineup Plus produces everything the Lineup does, along with data on two and three man groups so a coach can identify the pairs and trios that are working best together no matter which five-man group they’re partnered with. Reinvented Software has debuted Keep It 1.0 for the Mac. It combines notebook and organizer features. With Keep It, you can take notes for that idea you need to save, or list you need to make, save web pages as links, and PDFs for offline viewing. Econ Technologies (https://www.econtechnologies.com) has upgraded ChronoSync, its backup utility for the Mac, to version 4.8. “Assistants” now guide you through the process of configuring a Synchronizer Task. This lets you run syncs and backups automatically when files are changed ChronoSync 4.8 — a free update for registered users — also adds a “Validate” step to check backed up data and verify the integrity not only of the file contents, but all file attributes and metadata associated with the files. You can confirm backups down to every last detail and get a report of anything that might be out-of-sync. ChronoSync costs $49.99. Fission 2.4 brings revamped support for creating custom...
Rogue Amoeba has updated Fission (https://rogueamoeba.com/fission/), its macOS audio editor. Version 2.4 brings revamped support for creating custom ringtones for use on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iTunes 12.7 removed several features, including support for managing and syncing custom tones. This feature removal broke functionality in several current apps, including Apple's own GarageBand app, as well as older versions of Fission. However, with Fission 2.4, users can once again save custom tones for use on iOS devices. Fission runs on macOS and higher, with a free fully-functional trial available for download. Apple has released a golden master (GM) candidate of macOS High Sierra to developers and public beta testers A golden master is a final version of software ready for release to manufacturing. The macOS High Sierra GM can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center or over-the-air using the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store for those in Apple’s Public Beta Testing Program. The finished version of the operating system update is due Tuesday, September 20. macOS High Sierra will run on all machines that are compatible with macOS Sierra.

DHS tells all federal agencies to shutter user of Kaspersky Lab...
The US Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a binding operational directive to all federal agencies, ordering them to shutter use of Kaspersky software within 90 days over concerns with the Russian-based company's ties to the Kremlin, reports “ZDNet” (http://tinyurl.com/ya5eulbk). Kaspersky Lab is a Russian multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider headquartered in Moscow, Russia, and operated by a holding company in the United Kingdom. It ranks fourth in the global ranking of antivirus vendors by revenue. The company has became the subject of controversy in the United States, over allegations that it has engaged with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), in the wake of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Apple releases iTunes 12.7 for macOS
Apple has updated iTunes for macOS to version 12.7, removing the App Store items for purchasing iOS apps. It can be downloaded at the Mac App Store for free. After you install the update, a popup window says “the new iTunes places emphasis on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks.” Apple notes that, if you previously used iTunes to sync apps or ringtones to your iOS device, use the new App Store or Sounds Settings on iOS to re-download them without your Mac. Information Technology Disaster Resource Center
Recent events such as Hurricanes Harvey and Irma remind us of all kinds of recovery – but often, news doesn’t talk about support related to IT. Fortunately, there are many ways to get help or give help, and organizations ready and willing to step in and give assistance. One of them is the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC), a non-profit group of volunteers from the IT community who provide no-cost telecommunications support to survivors and emergency responders as they begin recovery after a disaster. Avira has introduced the new Free Security Suite for Mac. It’s “the world’s first free security package for Mac users that combines security and privacy features into a single suite at no cost,” according to Alexander Vukcevic, director of Avira Protection Services.
