App Camp For Girls registration opens for 2017 summer sessions
App Camp For Girls, a non-profit organization aimed at correcting the gender imbalance in the software industry, has opened 2017 registration for its summer program that teaches girls how to make mobile apps in one week. This year, the aspiring developers will use Apple's new educational tool, Swift Playgrounds, a new app for iPad that teaches Swift code in a fun and interactive way.
At App Camp for Girls, aspiring software developers receive a broad introduction to the process of iOS app development, from brainstorming and designing ideas to building and pitching their apps. The participants use Macs and Apple's suite of developer tools to build their apps and run them on iPod touch devices.
Camp tuition is $400 for the week. In addition to launching a new location in Chicago, the program will again take place in Portland, Seattle, and Phoenix. Parents can register for 2017 sessions on the App Camp For Girls website (http://appcamp4girls.com). All sessions will be held in July....
Apple to start taking WWDC scholarship applications on March 27
Apple will start taking scholarship applications for the 2017 World Wide Developer's Conference (WWDC) on March 27.
To be eligible for a WWDC Scholarship (https://developer.apple.com/wwdc/scholarships/), applicants must be registered with the program either with a free or paid membership, be 13 years of age or older, and must be actively involved in schooling or be STEM organization alumni. Applicants must provide Apple with proof of enrollment in an educational institution.
Applicants must also create a visually interactive scene in a Swift playground that can be experienced within three minutes. They can use Swift Playgrounds on an iPad or Xcode on a Mac. Templates are available in Swift Playgrounds for a head start on more advanced creations.

NUKE artists can use the V-Ray Volume Grid node to import and render fire, smoke and other fluid simulations as OpenVDB files from applications like Houdini. This gives compositors direct control over lighting and the final look of volumetric effects for better integration. Maintain has served up Cocktail 10.3 (Sierra Edition), a new edition of Cocktail for users running macOS Sierra. It’s a general purpose utility that lets users clean, repair and optimize their Macs.

Apple releases fourth developer beta of tvOS 10.2
Apple has posted the fourth tvOS 10.2 developer beta for testing on Apple TV. tvOS 10.2 — available at the Apple Developer Center — focuses on “new features, bug fixes, and improvements in the OS and SDK [software development kit.”
The tvOS 10.2 beta provides an accelerated scrolling feature to the Siri remote so you can scroll through lists of content faster. The OS update also adds the TV app, which is designed to offer a unified experience for discovering and accessing TV shows and movies from multiple apps on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. It provides one place to access TV shows and movies, as well as a place to discover new content to watch.
What’s more, the tvOS 10.2 beta adds support for the Device Enrollment Program and support for the VideoToolbox framework, which lets people tap directly into hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding functions.

Static Z Software has updated Sound Control, a sound volume mixer for the Mac, to version 2. The app enables users to quickly change app volumes, as well as selectively apply a system-wide EQ to app audio.
Sound Control does this by adding a software mixer to the menu bar of your Mac. In addition to the volume mixer, Sound Control also adds a software EQ to your audio output allowing you to tailor the sound of your Mac's audio to their specific taste or to properly calibrate to the frequency response of their speakers.
New in Sound Control 2 is per-app audio EQ. This feature allows users to independently tweak the sound of their apps. Sound Control 2 also adds customizable audio routing. You can use it to reroute audio from any app to any audio device on your Mac.

Apple Park to open in April
Apple says that Apple Park, the company’s new 175-acre campus, will be ready for employees to begin occupying in April. The process of moving more than 12,000 people will take over six months, and construction of the buildings and parklands is scheduled to continue through the summer.

Apple releases Logic Pro X 10.3.1
Apple has updated Logic Pro X — its macOS software for professional songwriting, editing, and mixing — to version 10.3.1. According to Apple, the upgrade:
° Addresses issues that could cause regions to behave unexpectedly while moving them;
° Resolves an issue where regions on inactive Track Alternatives could get deleted;
° Global edits that cut or insert time are now also applied to inactive Track Alternatives;
° Projects using sample rates other than 44.1kHz can now be shared to GarageBand for iOS.
The update for current Logic Pro X users is free and available now through the Mac App Store. For new users the software costs $199.99. It requires macOS 10.11 or later.
