Fender Collection 2 for AmpliTube now available

TextExpander for macOS adds Touch Bar support
SmileOnMyMac (http://www.smileonmymac.com) has updated TextExpander, a macOS utility that lets users define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, to version 6.1.3. The upgrade adds support for the new MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar as well as improving VoiceOver support in the snippet editor. TextExpander 6.1.3 requires macOS 10.10 or higher. It costs as little as $3.33 per month for individuals on the Life Hacker plan. Current TextExpander users receive a 50% lifetime discount. AKVI releases the romantic Vintage Pack
AKVIS (www.akvis.com) has released the $17 “romantic” Vintage Pack, a picture frame pack that includes 100 designs (50 horizontal and 50 vertical). Focalcrest unveils HomeKit smart home bridging solution
Focalcrest Technology released its HomeKit smart home bridging solution, Mixtile Hub, at the this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It’s a smart home bridging solution to support smart home devices from different brands to access Apple’s HomeKit platform. The Mixtile Hub can link iOS devices with compatible smart home products, surveillance devices and probe sensors through ZigBee and Z-Wave. App Store shatters records on New Year’s Day
Apple says its App Store welcomed 2017 with its busiest single day ever on New Year’s Day, capping a record-breaking holiday season. There were nearly US$240 million in purchases. In 2016 alone, developers earned over $20 billion, up over 40% from 2015. Since the App Store launched in 2008, developers have earned over $60 billion, creating “amazing” app experiences for App Store customers across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac, according to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. Customers broke all-time records this holiday season with purchases from the App Store topping $3 billion in December. Elgato (www.elgato.com) has introduced the Thunderbolt 3 Dock, which enables you to connect and charge your MacBook Pro or Windows notebook with only one cable. Pyle USA has introduced MusicMover, a full range stereo speaker system that also provides a “light show.” It boasts LED lights with five color changing modes, that blink and pulse to the music. The MusicMover allows users to connect via Bluetooth or 3.5mm to listen to Pandora, Spotify or online playlists. It has an FM tuner if users prefer to listen to the radio. The portable boombox offers two 2-inch drivers and two 4-inch subwoofers with a ported enclosure. Users can adjust treble, bass, echo and volume levels. Enigma Software Group reports that as of December 19th, malware infections on its customers' computers are 99.23% higher than the average number of infections in the month prior to the holiday shopping season starting on Black Friday. The infection rate is tracking much higher than the infection rate in 2015, which saw an 84% spike. In 2014 the spike was 42%. "We believe the continued spike in malware is due in large part to increased online activity by holiday shoppers, and increased efforts on the part of malware makers to take advantage of those shoppers," said ESG spokesperson Ryan Gerding. The busiest day so far for malware infections was not on Cyber Monday. Instead, it was Wednesday, Dec. 14. That day saw infections 120.06% higher than normal. Cyber Monday's spike was 118.34%. Apple updates its AirPort Extreme software
Apple has released new versions of its router software: 7.6.8 for the 802.11n AirPort Extreme, and 7.7.8 for the 802.11ac AirPort Extreme. According to Apple's release notes, the update fixes an issue where the routers would not respond to the AirPort Utility when "Back to My Mac" is enabled. There are also security fixes. You can install the upgrades via the AirPort Utility. If the routers are not visible as a result of "Back to my Mac" being enabled, disable the feature and reboot the routers.

NFC Forum announces new tech specs
The NFC Forum has announced \the availability of three adopted and one candidate technical specifications, following approval by the Board of Directors. Nintendo’s Super Mario Run game for the iPhone and iPad is now available at the Apple App Store. You can play the game one-handed and engage in a new battle mode called Toad Battle.  It’s a free download, but costs $9.99 to unlock all the features.
