With rumors of a new version of Final Cut Pro flying around, at least one developer doesn't think it will cut down on their market, even as Apple add new features. Intelligent Assistance’s CEO Philip Hodgetts says he’s not concerned that a new version of Final Cut Pro is rumored to be coming in early 2011. “With every release of Final Cut Pro, Apple incorporate features that had previously been provided by third party vendors, like ourselves,” says Hodgetts. “That’s a fact of life and the way to deal with it is to innovate, which is what we keep doing. Professor: Apple is company that most endangers the Internet
Columbia law professor Tim Wu, the man who coined the term "net neutrality," says that Apple is the company that most endangers the freedom of the Internet. And he tells the "New York Times" (http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/14/one-on-one-tim-wu-author-of-the...) that he expects that danger to outlive CEO Steve Jobs' tenure at Apple. When asked, "do the technology monopolies surrounding the Internet look different than the past?", Wu had this to say: "The question is whether there is something about the Internet that is fundamentally different, or about these times that is intrinsically more dynamic, that we don’t repeat the past. I know the Internet was designed to resist integration, designed to resist centralized control, and that design defeated firms like AOL and Time Warner. But firms today, like Apple, make it unclear if the Internet is something lasting or just another cycle." In fact, he says Apple is the company he fears most. "Steve Jobs has the charisma, vision and...

Apple's Scott Forstall a 'name you need to know'...
"Forbes" magazine says Scott Forstall, Apple's senior vice president of iPhone Software, is "a name you need to know" in 2011. Here's what' "Forbes" say about Forstall: "Last month, Jobs said we’ll start finding more ideas from the mobile version of Apple’s OS X operating system recycled in its desktop machines. It’s also a safe bet that the software will play a role at the center of any new devices Apple introduces over the next few years. "So, Keep an eye on Scott Forstall, the engineer who came to Apple from NeXT with Jobs, and who runs Apple’s iOS group, which now power more than 100 million iPhones, iPads, and iPods. Forstall was one of the original architects of OS X, the operating system that saved the company earlier this decade." Forstall graduated from Stanford University in 1991 with a degree in symbolic systems, and received his Master's Degree in 1992 for computer science, also from Stanford.

iPad among TIME's '50 Best Inventions of 2010'
TIME lists the iPad among the "50 Best Inventions of 2010." Here's what the publication has to say about the Apple tablet: "How does Apple keep out-inventing the rest of the tech industry? Often, it's by reinventing a product category that its competitors have given up on. In theory, the iPad is merely a follow-up to such resoundingly unpopular slate-style computers as Microsoft's Tablet PC. But Apple is the first company that designed finger-friendly hardware and software from scratch rather than stuffing a PC into a keyboardless case. When it calls the results 'magical' and 'revolutionary,' it's distorting reality only slightly. One analyst says the iPad is the fastest-selling nonphone gizmo in consumer-electronics history."

Is the MacBook Air cannibalizing iPad sales?
Rodman & Renshaw's Ashok Kumar tells clients that the MacBook Air is cannibalizing iPad sales, reports "Fortune" (http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/11/12/macbook-air-cannibalizing-ipad/?s...). The analyst says: ° Supply chain checks that suggest that Apple's monthly iPad production rate is unlikely to exceed two million per month by year's end -- considerably less than the 3 million/mos. some had predicted. That would put those six-plus million sales estimates for the December quarter at risk. ° Unspecified "anecdotal evidence" that the MacBook Air is cannibalizing the iPad. "A fully functional notebook in a very attractive form factor, may be resonating more with consumers than a content consumption only device." says Kumar.

Murdoch: iPads cannibalize newspaper sales
James Murdoch, head of News Corp's operations in Europe and Asia, says sales of newspaper apps for devices like the iPad are cannibalizing sales of physical newspapers, reports "Reuters" (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6AB2OA20101112?utm_source=feedburn...). Rupert Murdoch, News Corp's CEO and James's father, has called the iPad a game-changer for news media. Many in the industry agree, thanks to the iPad's large screen, high resolution and capacity for interactive features, notes "Reuters." The article says James Murdoch welcomed the opportunity to sell through Apple's iTunes online store, despite the fact that Apple takes 30%of the publisher's revenue. "We go to the iTunes store because it's frictionless," says James Murdock. "They charge a percentage but the guy on the newsstand and the newsagent charge a percentage, and they don't even merchandise it properly." However, he added that apps for mobile devices, with which readers typically engage far more than they do with...
