MICROSOFT WORD VERSION

The Microsoft Word version numbers approximately 950 pages and was written using Word 98. All files are formatted for double-sided greyscale printout on US Letter size paper. Approximately 475 US Letter size sheets are required. Before printing, please confirm that the following settings have been preserved, especially the 80% scaling:

Page Setup... Dialog		Document Layout
Page Size:	`US Letter`	Margins and Gutter:	`All margins 1 inch. Gutter 0.75 inches.`
Scaling:	`80%`	Header/Footer From Edge:	`0.5 inches`
Orientation:	`Portrait`	Mirror Margins:	`On`
		Tabs:	`0.17 inches`

Printout on A4 size paper is also satisfactory using the above settings. Accordingly, A4 users should not change the US Letter setting in the Page Setup... dialog.

Monaco	`Source code listings and associated comments`
Helvetica	`Headings`
N Helvetica Narrow	`Figure titles and captions`
Charcoal	`Menu title, menu item, button, control title, etc., references.`

PDF VERSION

The PDF version numbers approximately 950 pages and was created using the Microsoft Word version files as the source. It is thus formatted for US Letter size paper; however, printout on A4 size paper is satisfactory. That said, because of the reduced resolution of some graphics in the PDF version, the Microsoft Word version is the preferred source for hardcopy.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or later is required. Please ensure that the Smooth Text and Monochrome Images option in Acrobat Reader's Preferences is selected.

To keep file size to a minimum, no fonts were embedded during PDF file creation. For a true rendition of the original documents, the following fonts should be installed on your system: Palatino (main text); Helvetica (headings); N Helvetica Narrow (figures); Monaco (source code listings and comments); Charcoal (menu references, etc.).

DEMONSTRATION PROGRAMS

Demonstration programs are associated with all chapters except Chapters 5 and 9. The demonstration program package includes all required CodeWarrior project files, source code files/s, and resource files.

The demonstration programs were created as multi-target projects (680x0 and PowerPC) using Metrowerks CodeWarrior Pro 3. Resource files were created using Resorcerer Version 2.2.
