FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fourth World Releases WebMerge 1.8
LOS ANGELES, California - 24 October, 2001 Fourth World today released
WebMerge 1.8, a tool for Mac OS and Windows that generates static Web pages
from database files. The new version supports new tags for even greater
flexibility for page layout, portable file format for its automatable
settings files across platforms, completely revised documentation now in
HTML format, and even faster performance.
WebMerge 1.8 can work with any database that exports in Merge or
tab-delimited format, including FileMaker Pro and Microsoft Access. The
user creates a template HTML page with simple place holder tags, and
WebMerge creates a new HTML page from the data in each record of the
exported Merge file. WebMerge can also create an index page with links to
each of the generated pages. Generated pages can be hosted on any Web
server without the need for a specialized database hosting solution.
"We were thrilled to see MacWorld give us a four-mouse review in their
November issue citing WebMerge's ease of use and fast performance, but we
wanted to make it even faster and simpler," said Richard Gaskin, president
of Fourth World. "We met those goals, and completely rewrote the
documentation to make it even easier for people to get started using the
tool quickly. We also added three new sets of example files to show a
greater range of what WebMerge can do."
Customer response to the free upgrade has been very strong. "The new tag
options open all sorts of doors for our automated production," said Tiffany
Hope of Moonshot Media. "The new examples files are very useful for getting
a feel for the range of things WebMerge can do for us."
