NETOPIA LAUNCHES TIMBUKTU PRO 2000 FOR INTERNET-BASED REMOTE CONTROL

New Internet Features Make it Easy for Customers to Find Each Other and
Collaborate Across Virtually Any Platform.

ALAMEDA, Calif., March 16, 2000 Netopia, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTPA) today
announced the introduction of Timbuktu Pro 2000, the first solution to
offer customers a high performance, multi-platform, remote control and
Internet communication tool for Windows and Mac OS computers in one
universal package. Timbuktu Pro 2000 is the ideal solution for mobile
workers, telecommuters, and day extenders who need to connect to and
communicate with other users across the Internet, over direct telephone
lines, and across multiple platforms.

Timbuktu Pro 2000 enables telecommuting and collaboration across any
Internet, network, or direct dial modem connection from any personal
computer. New enhancements make it easier than ever to find other Timbuktu
Pro users on the Internet, eliminating the complexity of cryptic TCP/IP
addresses. And, within a single solution, Timbuktu Pro 2000 supports
connections between Windows 2000, Windows 9X, Windows NT, and Mac OS
machines, providing cross-platform Internet communication and remote
control across all major platforms.

With the explosive growth of Internet appliance PCs, customers today
require the ability to communicate easily over the Internet, said Jeff
Porter, vice president of software product marketing. Weve given our
customers peace of mind knowing that by selecting Timbuktu Pro 2000 they
can easily find and connect to any other Timbuktu Pro enabled computer on
the Internet.

New Internet Features
Packed with new tools to enable Internet and cross-platform communication
and collaboration, Timbuktu Pro 2000 includes these key features to ensure
fast performance and fail safe operation:

Internet Locator Service - allows customers to connect over the Internet
using familiar email addresses, making communication with other Timbuktu
Pro 2000 users as simple as sending email.

Timbuktu Pro LDAP Directory - enables customers to simply browse a
searchable worldwide Internet directory for Timbuktu Pro 2000 buddies and
connect with one click ease.

Multiple Access Mode Technology - provides a choice of connectivity
options ensuring that any mobile worker, telecommuter, or collaborator can
connect and communicate without fail over virtually any Internet, Network,
Dial-up, or Direct Dial modem connection.

Timbuktu Pro Direct Dial - makes communication as easy as dialing a
telephone for Windows-to-Windows, Mac-to-Mac, and Windows-to-Mac
cross-platform connections.

Universal Licensing - means Timbuktu Pro 2000 is licensed on a per
computer basis, giving the power of choice and flexibility to install
Timbuktu Pro on any supported platform.
