Pervasive Software(r) Introduces Tango(tm) 2000 Application Server for Linux

Combination of Web Application Server and Integrated Database Enables
Developers to Deploy Tango 2000-Based Web and E-Business Applications in
Linux Environment

AUSTIN, TEXAS-December 28, 1999-Pervasive Software Inc. (Nasdaq:PVSW), a
leading provider of software that delivers the freedom to create
applications for everyone, everywhere, today introduced its Tango(tm) 2000
Application Server for the open-source Linux environment. Versions of this
Web application server product for Red Hat Linux, Caldera OpenLinux and
SuSE Linux are expected to be available for shipment before the end of the
year.

Pervasive entered the Linux market in October 1999 when it shipped
Pervasive.SQL Server for Linux. The scalable, reliable Pervasive.SQL 2000
database engine is included in the Tango 2000 Application Server for Linux,
providing developers with a low-cost, zero-administration and robust
deployment solution for Web and e-business applications. In addition to
integrating with Pervasive.SQL 2000, the Tango 2000 Application Server can
connect directly to Oracle, as well as to other leading databases through
ODBC drivers, even if the databases reside on different platforms. Indirect
access to most other databases is also enabled through Java.

"Today's announcement for the Linux environment further solidifies Tango
2000's leadership position as one of the most portable of all Web
application servers," said Greg Hemstreet, general manager of Pervasive's
Tango business unit. "Multi-platform support is a hallmark of Tango 2000.
The cross-platform Tango Development Studio allows Web developers to
quickly create Web applications on Windows or Mac OS, and then deploy those
applications in any combination of operating environments, including
Windows NT, Sun Solaris, Mac OS and now three of the leading distributions
of Linux, without having to recompile code. In short, Tango 2000's
unparalleled multi-platform support gives Web developers the flexibility
they need to speed applications to market on their OS platforms of choice."

"We've developed high-end Tango-enabled sites for more than four years,
including sites based on Pervasive's Tango 2000 Application Server for
Solaris. With the release of Tango 2000 Application Server for Linux,
Pervasive has delivered a great product that will meet the needs of an even
broader segment of clients," said Rick Smith, executive producer of Dragon
Street Pictures (www.dragon-street.com), a Dallas-based Web development
group that creates sites and Web-based applications for
business-to-business and business-to-consumer clients. "With Tango, we can
serve our clients' solutions on almost any platform-Unix, Windows NT, Mac
OS and now Linux. This flexibility is unique to Tango 2000. Plus, Tango's
rapid development environment is powerful and easy to use. Thank you,
Pervasive!"

The robust Tango 2000 Application Server for Linux scales from small
business to large enterprise applications, and the server architecture
supports multi-platform clustering and failover capability. The product
also includes self-monitoring tools to support server reliability and
availability.

The Tango 2000 Application Server for Linux is Pervasive's Web
infrastructure solution for the rapidly growing Linux market. According to
International Data Corp. (IDC), commercial shipments of Linux will grow
faster than the total shipments of all other client or server operating
systems through 2003. IDC also reports that Linux was the fastest-growing
server OS in 1998, growing more than 212 percent in that year alone and
capturing more than 17 percent of all server OS shipments. As noted in a
recent survey by Internet researchers NetCraft, Inc., the open-source,
Linux-based Apache Web server runs 55 percent of the Internet's Web sites,
outdistancing its closest competitor by more than 30 percent. According to
IDC, Linux boasts more than 10 million users worldwide.

Pricing and Availability

Pervasive is taking orders now for the Tango 2000 Application Server for
Linux. Versions are available for Red Hat Linux 5.2 and higher, Caldera
OpenLinux 2.2 and higher, and SuSE Linux 6.1 and higher. U.S. pricing
ranges from $1295 for the Small Business Edition to $25,000 for the
Corporate Edition for an entire cluster. For more information about the
