STUFFIT - THE PREMIER COMPRESSION SOLUTION CELEBRATES ITS 20th ANNIVERSARY
WITH THE LAUNCH OF STUFFIT DELUXE 2009 FOR THE MAC

Smith Micro Delivers an Advanced Archive and Compression Solution for
Multimedia and Office Files with New Leopard Compatibility for Quick Look,
Time Machine and MobileMe

ALISO VIEJO, CA - Sept. 17, 2008 - Smith Micro Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:
SMSI) Consumer Group, today announced the launch of StuffIt Deluxe 2009 for
the Mac, its award-winning archive and compression software. StuffIt Deluxe
2009 marks StuffIt's 20th anniversary and the latest edition offers
state-of-the-art improvements to compress, expand, secure and back- up even
more formats and files faster and better than ever before. StuffIt Deluxe
2009 includes support for Apple's Mac OS X Leopard technology including
Quick Look, Time Machine and MobileMe.

StuffIt Deluxe 2009 includes unique multimedia compression capabilities
that allow users to compress a wide variety of file types and formats such
as photos, MP3s, PDFs and 24-bit images such as TIFF, PNG, BMP, JPEG 2000,
GIF files and Microsoft Office documents without reducing quality. StuffIt
Deluxe 2009 has also added Duplicate Folding to its track record of
innovation by reducing the unnecessary redundancy that occurs when adding
multiple copies of the same document to an archive. Duplicate Folding
particularly benefits those already taking advantage of StuffIt scheduled
archive capabilities as part of their regular backup routine.

"These days, thousands of megabytes of files are created or downloaded
daily to a user's Mac, clogging up system directories and creating massive
amounts of redundancy in duplicate files," said Eric Kopf, StuffIt Product
Manager for Smith Micro Software. "StuffIt Deluxe 2009 lets users reclaim
that space and improves their ability to perform everyday tasks such as
searching for and saving files, and sending email messages and attachments.
This edition of StuffIt offers support for Mac OS X Leopard and extensive
improvements to its core compression management tools. With over 10 million
users today, StuffIt Deluxe 2009 continues to prove itself as the standard
compression solution for all Mac users."

StuffIt Deluxe 2009 offers advanced search features to help users better
locate, preview and archive files. With Apple Spotlight integration,
StuffIt users can quickly find and review files compressed within an
archive. StuffIt's "Collections" feature enables users to easily locate all
the archives on the Mac within one window, and then quickly archive files
that match custom search criteria. StuffIt's "Archive Manager" displays all
archives located on the Mac including indexes of archives stored on CD or
DVD, making it easy to browse, preview, search for and find any file.
StuffIt Deluxe 2009 displays a list of files and image preview thumbnails
so that users can view the contents without spending additional time and
resources to expand the archive.

Also new to this version of StuffIt Deluxe is DropStuff 2009. StuffIt's
"DropStuff" has long set the standard for ease of use in file compression
products by allowing users to simply drag and drop files on the DropStuff
Dock icon to create a new archive of the files. Featuring a new and
improved user interface, DropStuff 2009 is now completely customizable and
allows users to optimize their workflow by saving unique configuration
settings for different types of compression formats and other options into
Profiles and Desktop droplets.

StuffIt Deluxe 2009 now includes support for Google's MacFUSE, which allows
users to mount any browsable archive type in the Finder just like a disk or
disk image, and SEA Maker, an application that lets users make OS X
mini-installers using the StuffIt technology. The new "Remote Payload"
feature allows the SEA Maker to retrieve the parts for installation from an
FTP site or a user's MobileMe iDisk. StuffIt Deluxe 2009 also offers
integrated CD/DVD burning capabilities to automatically split large
archives across multiple disks. To ensure peace of mind, StuffIt Deluxe
2009 offers data protection with strong RC4 512-bit or AES 256-bit
encryption and automatic error-correction technology.

StuffIt Deluxe 2009 for Mac Features and Benefits:

* NEW! Quick Look and Time Machine Support - allows users to view an
archive without having to expand it from within Mail, the Finder or any
application that supports Quick Look

* NEW! MobileMe Support - Automatically transfers and backs up archives to
iDisk via DropStuff and StuffIt Scheduler

and dropped
