Readiris Pro 9 Sets New Mac Standard for OCR

Delray Beach, FL =F6 September 22, 2003 =F6 I.R.I.S. Group, a
publicly traded company (Euronext: IRI), market leader in Automatic
Document Recognition (ADR), Electronic Document Management (EDM) and
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) announced today the worldwide
release or Readiris Pro 9 for Mac OS, the new version of its flagship
OCR software on the Mac platform.

Over the past years, I.R.I.S. has been developing its whole OCR
product range on the MAC OS platform and became a leading provider of
OCR products in the Mac world.  Readiris Pro 9 is dedicated to
private and professional users looking to avoid the long and tedious
manual typing and formatting of printed information.

Very fast and accurate, Readiris Pro 9 recognizes and converts
books, magazines, invoices, price lists, reports, etc. as well as
read-only PDFs, into editable text. The result can be saved in a
variety of output formats (i.e. word processors, spreadsheets,
programs, PDF files, HTML files, and more).  Readiris Pro 9 comes
with a host of new and improved features making it not only the
fastest and most accurate product in the market, but also the most
feature-rich.  New and improved features include:

A completely renewed user interface

New toolbars and redesigned buttons clearly guide the user in the
recognition steps: the scanning or opening of a document, the language
and output format choice and the recognition. New color thumbnails
ease the navigation from one document to another.

New engine and "Autoformat Technology" improves
formatting speed and accuracy

Based on a new OCR engine and a new "Autoformat
technology", Readiris Pro 9 retypes faster and more accurately.
The layout of the original document is perfectly preserved; text,
tables and graphics are correctly placed in the output files.

"Ignore Exterior Area" to limit the recognition
zone

Readiris Pro 9 will automatically analyze the image inside a
specified zone and ignore the information located outside the
zone.

Powerful table recognition technology

Readiris Pro 9 automatically identifies tables and marks them as
table zone. Once the recognition is done, it perfectly reproduces them
in the output file allowing the user to transform paper invoices,
price lists, listings and any document containing tables in digital
information.

Automatic function button

The page analysis (detection of text, table and graphic zones),
page deskewing (for distorted images), page despeckling (to remove
pixels that disturb recognition), and page orientation can be done
automatically after scanning.

PDF input

Readiris Pro 9 can open a large number of image files including
read only PDF files.

"Flowing Text" mode for easy editing

Once the document is recognized and edited, the user can easily
modify the text, add or delete words. The "Flowing Text"
mode maintains the layout by flowing words from text box to text
box.

Top Recognition Accuracy in 104 languages

Readiris Pro 9 recognizes up to 104 different languages based on
3 alphabets (Latin, Greek and Cyrillic), including the
Western-European, Eastern-European, Baltic and Cyrillic
("Russian") languages, Greek and Turkish. The user interface
and the manual are localized in six languages: English, French, Dutch,
German, Italian and Spanish.

Unique Asian languages Recognition

An Asian OCR add-on is available for the recognition of
Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Fully
searchable PDF files or HTML WYSIWIG documents can be generated in all
these 4 Asian languages. Pages with mixed Asian and English text can
also be recognized.

Wide variety of outputs

Documents can be saved as a TEXT, RTF, PDF or HTML files or be
transferred into word processors or spreadsheet programs.

PDF output

Readiris Pro 9 edits your documents and saves them in the most
popular format for information archiving and sharing: you will get
fully searchable PDF files with both the text and the image.

New WYSIWYG HTML output

Readiris Pro 9 converts paper documents in WYSIWYG (What You See
Is What You Get) HTML files ready to be put online!

New image output

Readiris Pro 9 can be used as a scanning interface to acquire
documents and keep images to be recognized later (Available format:
TIFF, JPEG, PSD, PNG, PICT and BMP).

Support of flatbed, sheet fed scanners, MFP and digital
cameras

Readiris Pro 9 uses the Photoshop "Plug-In" delivered
with your scanner.  It works with TWAIN compliant devices.

Perfect recognition of color documents

Color documents and text on colored backgrounds are perfectly
reproduced. Color pictures are replaced in the output file.

Automatic identification of text, table and graphic zones

Readiris Pro automatically analyzes the document image and
identifies text zones, graphics and table zones. These are correctly
reproduced in the output file.

Easy-to-use automatic OCR option

Once your settings are defined, you just scan your documents and
Readiris Pro automatically does the recognition.

Interactive learning to increase the OCR quality

Readiris Pro will ask you to validate the recognition of bad
quality characters. It will memorize them and will improve the OCR
quality.

Effective multi-page OCR option

Scan up to 50 pages at the same time:  Readiris Pro will
save them in a unique output file.

Improved Adjust Image option

Modify the image brightness and to remove pixels to improve the
image quality providing a better OCR result.

Readiris Pro 9 Corporate Edition

The Corporate version of Readiris Pro 9 for Mac OS is aimed at
professionals who need to convert larger volumes of paper documents as
well as business cards. It includes all the features of the standard
version and offers additional new features.

The corporate edition transforms paper business cards into
electronic contacts and keeps up-to-date electronic address books. It
offers a higher speed and accuracy and recognizes business cards from
up to 53 different countries and allows users to select a primary
language and up to 4 secondary languages. The contacts can be saved in
a structured file (comma or tab delimited format) and exported to any
address database (the standard Mac OS X application address), or they
can be sent directly to Microsoft Entourage, Apple Works 6, Now
Contact or other popular contact managers.  The new version can
export the contacts in the HTML and vCard formats. The card images can
be also included in the export.  Once your contacts are exported
on your Mac, you can synchronize them with iSync, Apple=E2s hot
synchronizing software, and send them to your mobile phone, iPod or
PDA.  The corporate edition also scans up to 250 pages at the
same time.
