Rainbow Announces Mac OS X Software Security Solution

Sentinel Eve3 Protects Mac OS X Applications via Easy-to-Use USB Smart Token

IRVINE, Calif., April 30, 2001 - The Digital Rights Management group of
Rainbow Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNBO) a leading provider of
high-performance security solutions for the Internet, eCommerce and
software protection, today announced Mac OS X support for the company's
Sentinel Eve3 software security solution. The Eve3 provides full software
application security for Mac OS X applications via an easy-to-use,
easy-to-install USB security key.

The Sentinel Eve3 is a member of Rainbow's market-leading Sentinel family
of software security keys. Rainbow has sold more than 26 million software
security keys, high-security authentication tokens and workstation security
solutions, which secure more applications and authenticate more users than
any other company.

"In today's highly competitive economic environment, software developers
and publishers must protect their intellectual property investment to
maximize license revenues for new software sales," said Robert Shields,
senior director of strategic marketing, Rainbow Technologies. "Adding
software security protection for new applications developed on the exciting
new Mac OS X platform eliminates a potential source of lost revenue for our
customers. The Eve3 fully leverages the proven security technology of our
Sentinel family of software-protection solutions in a form factor that is
both easy-to-use and install. Once again, Rainbow is providing the market
with a proven and tested solution for software security."

The Sentinel Suite of Products
The Sentinel product family enables software security for ISVs and software
developers through secure hardware- and software-based license software
distribution and management tools. Sentinel secures applications from
unauthorized execution and protects developers and ISVs from illegal
licensing and distribution. These products represent the industry's most
powerful and flexible solution for securing critical applications in
stand-alone or networked environments. Rainbow's Digital Rights Management
group markets the industry's leading software security, electronic software
licensing and management, and digital rights management solution. Rainbow
has sold more keys to more customers than any other competitive solution.

Rainbow's Sentinel solutions provide the tools to enable: * Digital Rights
Management (DRM) for software and applications * Electronic License
Distribution/Management (ELD/M) * Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) *
Electronic Commerce Licensing Tools and Security

Members of the Rainbow Sentinel family include Sentinel Eve3, Sentinel
SuperPro, SuperProNet, SentinelLM and SentinelExpress.

The Sentinel Eve3 is the industry's leading solution for securing
applications for the Macintosh platform. The Eve3 provides a high degree of
compatibility, reliability and security for Mac-based applications. The
Eve3 features a microprocessor for software protection for single-licensed
or multiple-licensed applications. Users can easily configure
password-protected memory as read/write cells, read-only cells or
challenge/response registers. To maximize Mac application security, the
Eve3 features proprietary algorithm descriptors that can be stored in the
key, allowing users to protect multiple applications by assigning each
package a unique algorithm.
