PreFab UI Browser: The "Ultimate Assistant" for GUI Scripting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PreFab Software updates UI Browser, the "ultimate assistant" for GUI
Scripting, for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger

NORTH ANDOVER, Massachusetts - April 29, 2005 -- PreFab Software, Inc. and
Bill Cheeseman today announced the release of version 1.4 of their popular
product, PreFab UI Browser. UI Browser now supports all of the new GUI
Scripting and accessibility enhancements introduced by Apple in Mac OS X
10.4 Tiger.

UI Browser is the "ultimate assistant" for Apple's GUI Scripting and
accessibility technologies. It helps you to explore, manipulate and monitor
the user interface of most Mac OS X applications running on your computer.
With the push of a button, it also generates AppleScript statements to
control even non-scriptable applications using GUI Scripting. No other
utility provides all of the information you need in order to write scripts
for GUI Scripting.

UI Browser 1.4 requires Mac OS X 10.3 Panther or newer, but it works best
with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. It is a recommended upgrade for all customers who
are running Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4. (UI Browser 1.4 no longer supports Mac
OS X 10.2 Jaguar.)

Download a free, full-featured 30-day trial version of UI Browser 1.4 now
at http://www.prefab.com/uibrowser/. This trial version will work even if
you tried an older version of UI Browser more than 30 days ago.

UI Browser 1.4 is a free upgrade for licensed users. The price for new
users is $55, with quantity discounts available.

What's New in UI Browser 1.4:

When running under Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, UI Browser 1.4 recognizes all of
Apple's enhancements to GUI Scripting and accessibility in Tiger, including
the following:

1. Several new kinds of UI elements. These include help tags, hyperlinks,
mattes, and text rulers (along with all of a text ruler's UI elements,
including tab markers).

2. Many new attributes. These include the new, enhanced Description
attribute, a new Top Level UI Element attribute that lets you access the
window, drawer or sheet containing a UI element, or the list containing a
Dock item, and a dozen others that are available in some UI elements. In
addition, a new attribute for strings lets you access the fonts, Web links
and other formatting features of text strings in text views and text fields.

3. New actions to open a menu and to delete a marker on a text ruler.

4. New notifications, including Title Changed, Selected Text Changed,
Selected Children Changed, and many others.

5. Improvements in Apple's GUI Scripting technology, including navigation
between UI elements, such as parent and children elements, and the ability
to Set Size and Set Position of windows reliably.

6. UI Browser now comes with a collection of advanced GUI Scripting script
examples requiring Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, including scripts demonstrating how
to execute commands in Dock items and in Menu Extras at the right end of
the menu bar.

UI Browser 1.4 also includes several minor bug fixes.

PreFab Software, Inc. has unmatched experience controlling the GUI via
scripts, releasing PreFab Player in 1994 with continued sales and support
today for Mac OS 9 and earlier. In 2003, PreFab entered the world of Mac OS
X with PreFab UI Browser, a popular utility to support Apple's new GUI
Scripting technology. PreFab UI Actions, implementing "universal
attachability" for AppleScript, followed in 2004. Download fully-functional
30-day trial versions at http://www.prefab.com/scripting.html. UI Browser
and UI Actions are based on Bill Cheeseman's Cocoa framework for working
with Apple's accessibility API.
