[NPL] WebSTAR 4.2 Optimized for G4

For Immediate Release

STARNINE WEBSTAR SERVER SUITE NOW OPTIMIZED FOR POWER MAC G4 COMPUTERS

-- Free Version 4.2 Update, Accelerated for G4 with Velocity Engine,
Speeds Web Server Processing and Downloads --

BERKELEY, Calif., January 5, 2000 -- StarNine Technologies, Inc.
today released WebSTAR Server Suite 4.2. Now the leading suite of
Internet server software for the Mac OS is optimized for the
PowerPC(tm) G4, with processor-intensive web serving components
accelerated for the G4 Velocity Engine(tm). Together WebSTAR Server
Suite and the PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine allow WebSTAR to be
respond faster to requests, especially for dynamically generated
pages. Available today directly from StarNine at
(http://www.starnine.com/), WebSTAR Server Suite 4.2 is available for
free to current WebSTAR Server Suite 4.0 and 4.1 users from
(http://www.starnine.com/), with upgrades and educational discounts
available.

Consistent with StarNine's goal of keeping up with the latest
technology advances from Apple, the WebSTAR Web Server and its
WebSTAR Data Cache Plug-in have been vectorized to take advantage of
the 128-bit vector processing using the PowerPC G4 processor. In
addition, the vast majority of other WebSTAR Server Suite components
have also been optimized for the PowerPC G4 processor.

"The advances achieved by Apple's PowerPC G4 processor and the
Velocity Engine are truly mind boggling," said Eric Zelenka, product
manager for WebSTAR Server Suite. "We at StarNine were so excited
about Apple's speed increases we immediately jumped on how WebSTAR
can take advantage of desktop supercomputing for the rest of us.
We're very proud of the result. WebSTAR Server Suite version 4.2 now
absolutely screams on the Power Macintosh G4."

"We're very pleased with the performance of WebSTAR Server Suite 4.2
on our new Power Macintosh G4," says Robin Atwood executive director
of the Community Rehabilitation Agencies of Tennessee. "As a
statewide non-profit association, concerned with security, we love
the power and flexibility of the WebSTAR/Mac OS combination. It's
great to see StarNine update the WebSTAR Server Suite so quickly to
keep up with the drastic speed improvements of Apple's desktop
supercomputer!"

PowerPC G4 With Velocity Engine Makes WebSTAR Faster
Apple's new Power Mac G4 is powered by the revolutionary new PowerPC
G4 chip architected by Apple, Motorola and IBM, and is the first
personal computer in history to deliver supercomputer

level performance of over one billion floating-point operations per
second. The G4 chip incorporates a new execution unit named the
Velocity Engine -- the heart of a supercomputer miniturized onto a
sliver of silicon. In a set of Intel's own tests published on their
Web site, the 500MHz G4 chip was 2.94 times as fast as the 600MHz
Pentium III processor. The G4 processor, with its Velocity Engine,
is an average of 2.94 times faster than the fastest Pentium III
(600MHz) in selected tests published by Intel to demonstrate
Pentium's speed. WebSTAR Server Suite 4.2 has been specifically
optimized to take advantage of these incredible speed increases.

Price and Availability
Available immediately, WebSTAR Server Suite 4.0 and 4.1 users can get
version 4.2 for free directly from StarNine at
