First NAT Software Router to Support QuickTime 4.0 Streaming Media

NAT Routing Software from Vicomsoft Allows Delivery of QuickTime 4.0
Streaming Media to Multiple LAN Users

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 4, 1999 -- Vicomsoft, the Internet
connectivity specialist, today announced support for QuickTime 4.0
streaming media in SoftRouter, their popular NAT software router for
both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. SoftRouter is the first NAT
software router to offer transparent support for QuickTime 4.0's
"streaming" of live video and audio over the Internet.

Previously, LAN users connected to the Internet through firewalls or
NAT routers often experienced difficulties receiving streaming media.
Vicomsoft engineers have been working closely with the Apple
QuickTime development team to implement a solution that allows
multiple LAN users to access video feeds through a NAT router as they
would any web site.

"With QuickTime 4 Apple is embracing a non-proprietary model for
Internet streaming and even giving away great server software under
our Open Source license," said Frank Casanova, director of QuickTime
product marketing at Apple. "Working with innovative companies like
Vicomsoft we aim to make sure anyone with an Internet connection can
get access to high-quality streamed QuickTime content."

SoftRouter also incorporates a transparent Web Caching Server;
powerful DHCP Server supporting up to 1,000 clients; a DNS Caching
Server for speeding up Internet host location; a Remote Access Server
including security allowing incoming connections to a LAN and
firewall protection for LAN users. SoftRouter's sister product,
Internet Gateway, offers the same popular features as well as
CyberNOT content filtering.

QuickTime 4 multimedia software, introduced by Apple Computer on 19
April 1999 is the first streaming video solution to comply with RTP
and RTSP non-proprietary Internet standards. Streaming media is
increasingly used for applications such as live television and radio
broadcasting or video conferences.
