[NPL] Vicomsoft Internet Gateway: Web Caching Server now integrated

Web Caching Server now integrated in Vicomsoft Internet Gateway

New Vicomsoft Internet Gateway now incorporates transparent Web
Caching Server with Offline Mode

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. April 21, 1999 -- Vicomsoft today announced a
major upgrade to their popular Internet Gateway software router used
to connect networks to the Internet. Version 6 incorporates a new
high performance transparent caching server that significantly speeds
up Internet browsing for network users. It also includes an exclusive
Offline Library Mode that allows browsing of cached content even when
not connected to the Internet.

The Vicomsoft integrated caching server automatically saves incoming
web content on the server's disk, while simultaneously delivering it
to requesting clients' browsers. The content is then delivered at
high speed to network users on all subsequent requests. This direct
cache-to-browser delivery avoids delays experienced by users
resulting from Internet access bandwidth limitations, ISP performance
restrictions, general Internet congestion and slow remote host
response time. It further optimizes use of available Internet access
bandwidth, accelerating the delivery of non-cached data as well.
Sites with high speed Internet connections (cable modem, DSL, T1) and
those with lower speed access (modem, ISDN) will both gain.
Vicomsoft's unique combination of router and caching technologies
transparently and automatically provides caching for all browsers on
the LAN.

An administrator can choose to permanently retain cached Internet
data such as graphics, movies or literature. A Catalog function
enables all network users to view the contents while the Offline
Library Mode allows redisplay of cached content to any user, even
when the LAN is not connected to the Internet. This is particulary
useful for educators who wish to collect specific information on a
topic and focus the attention of their students on the collected data.

The Internet Gateway also incorporates 'CyberNOT' filtering which
enables an administrator to prevent access to undesirable Internet
locations. Many educators and parents use this to allow unsupervised
student and child access to the Internet.

The internet Gateway is designed to be installed and set up in
minutes, even by non-technical administrators.

Brian Morris, President of Vicomsoft claims: "We are pleased that we
have been able to develop the world's first combined software router
and caching server. Our solution is a significant improvement over
older traditional 'proxy caching servers'. Our concurrent-streaming
technology optimizes throughput and while our transparent
connectivity enables LAN users to benefit automatically from both
Internet access and LAN caching." Adds Morris, "Our solutions are
powerful and flexible alternatives or additions to both dedicated
hardware routers and proxy caching servers".
