INSIDER UPDATEAGENT SETS NEW STANDARD FOR UPDATE DOWNLOADING POWER
Five-Mouse Rated Utility Adds Flexible, Powerful Controls and New User
Interface

November 12, 1998 [Carlsbad, CA] Insider Software today announced the
immediate availability of Insider UpdateAgent 3.0, the five-mouse-rated
Macintosh software-update utility formerly known as Insider Updates. The
new release adds many unique features and sports a new interface that
delivers unrivaled control of the updater selection and downloading process.

NEW, UNPARALLELED FILE SELECTION

After UpdateAgent 3.0 automatically scans a system's drives, it displays a
list of programs that it can update. Standard Macintosh disclosure
triangles provide users with the date the updater was created and a precise
summary of each updater's features. For each application, users can specify
which files are to be downloaded. Users can also block the downloading of
all files or any specific file for a selected application, or even tell
UpdateAgent to avoid listing the application or specific update file in the
future.

FLEXIBLE, POWERFUL CONTROL OF THE DOWNLOADING PROCESS

The new 3.0 version gives users unrivaled control of the downloading
process. They can specify that the downloads should occur in the background
or foreground, even skip the current file once it had begun downloading All
the while, UpdateAgent 3.0 estimates throughput and download time
remaining. As it downloads files, UpdateAgent organizes them into
categories named Updates, Upgrades and Skipped so users can find updaters
easily.

CLEARER, EASIER INTERFACE PROVIDES WEB LINKS AND BETTER FILE MANAGEMENT

Insider UpdateAgent 3.0 add several user interface improvements that
include clearer, reorganized menus; date stamps for the download of each
updater and the last UpdateAgent session; and direct web links to
developer's home pages and to each updater's information page.

ABOUT INSIDER UPDATEAGENT

Insider UpdateAgent brings every application and operating system program
on a Macintosh system current with the latest updates released by over
2,000 software vendors. After determining precisely which updaters are
required to bring a system up-to-date, UpdateAgent downloads the updaters
over the Internet or copies them from CDs. The program can run
automatically at regular intervals, maintains the confidentiality of users'
hard drive contents, and provides a hot web links to vendors' web sites.
Insider UpdateAgent's advanced capabilities earned it a coveted five-mouse
rating from ZDnet in July 1998.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The Standard Edition of Insider UpdateAgent provides a year of Internet
access to Insider's extensive database of software updaters and costs
$49.95 US. The CD Version costs $89.95 per CD or $249.95 for four CD sets
delivered every three months and makes Insider's complete collection of
updater's available via online access. The Limited Edition updates all the
software on a Macintosh one time for $12.95 via the Internet. Previously
licensed users of Insider UpdateAgent and Insider Updates can download and
use the new 3.0 version for free.

Insider UpdateAgent 3.0 is available immediately from Insider Software, and
can be ordered by visiting Insider's web site at www.insidersoftware.com,
or by calling 1-800-700-6340 or +1-760-804-9900.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Insider Updates requires only two megabytes of memory to run on the
Macintosh system being updated, as well as whatever disk space is required
to store any relevant updaters. The CD Version also needs a local CD drive
or access to a networked CD drive.

ABOUT INSIDER SOFTWARE

Insider Software, founded in 1993 and based in Carlsbad, California,
develops and markets software products that make Macintosh computers run
better. In addition to Insider UpdateAgent, Insider also produces Insider
FontAgent, the leading font maintenance and repair utility, and HyperBox, a
