Pervasive Software Announces Tango(tm) 2000 Open Web Development Solution

First Visual Interface for Object Support Provides No-coding
Drag-and-drop Environment
for Faster, More Cost-effective Web Development

AUSTIN, TEXAS*June 14, 1999*Pervasive Software Inc. (NASDAQ:PVSW), a
pioneer in developing software for powerful yet radically simplified
Web and packaged application development, deployment and information
management, today announced the new Pervasive Tango(tm) 2000 Web
development solution. The new Tango 2000 visual development
environment includes full COM object and JavaBean support, so
developers can simply drag and drop objects (with business code
already included) directly into their application files without
having to know the underlying syntax. Used by organizations ranging
from theglobe.com and Chase Manhattan Bank to Mary Kay Cosmetics and
the Chicago Board of Trade, Tango provides the speed of deployment,
power, flexibility, security and ease-of-use crucial to the efficient
development of complex business-critical Web solutions.

The Tango 2000 visual programming environment breaks the mold of
traditional Web development. Rather than using individual pages with
embedded logic, Tango visualizes the business logic and associates
this logic with the pages that will be generated dynamically by the
Tango Application Server. The process of defining the business logic
is to drag and drop actions that encapsulate discrete interaction
with back-end systems. By extending this process to allow the
inclusion of object technologies like COM and JavaBeans, Tango allows
teams of developers with different skill sets to build complex Web
applications using Tango's integrated development environment.

"Compared to many of the alternatives, Tango has always had
significant ease-of-use features," said Doug Goddard, president of
The Client Server Factory, a developer of commercial and custom
database applications (www.tcsf.com). "Tango has enabled us to
respond rapidly to customer requests for custom transactions, queries
and reports, and add new features to our commercial business packages
in a timely fashion. With Tango 2000, we can now re-use custom or
commercial COM objects and JavaBeans, and extend and integrate the
functional reach of Tango. For example, we can easily plug existing
e-commerce objects into Tango applications, middleware objects for
legacy application access and email extensions or for any object
interface. Tango 2000 takes the pain out of reusing complex objects."
Tango 2000 includes a host of new features that build on its
reputation as the fastest, easiest and most cost-effective
environment for developing, deploying and maintaining Web sites and
Web-based applications-dramatically raising the productivity and
lowering costs of Web development efforts.

New Features Include:

* Object Extensibility allows developers to easily visualize
objects within the Tango Development Studio and easily integrate
business objects and functionality that exist outside of the Tango
development environment.

* Tango Class Files allow developers to save Tango code as
objects for re-use in other applications. Tango Class Files are
available through the object tab just as other object types, like COM
and JavaBeans. Tango Class Files can be used over and over again by
dragging and dropping them into Tango Application Files. Developers
only need to write code once for creating such objects as an auction
site or a login model, which can then be re-used in future projects.
And if the Tango Class File worked once, developers know it will
always work when re-used, dramatically reducing bugs and speeding
development.

* Tango Web Analyzer is a new suite of Tango components that
allows real-time monitoring of Web site activity. Tango Web Analyzer
enables Web site personalization and marketing by tracking unique and
repeat visitors and mapping Web site traffic flow. All collected data
is stored in a SQL database for hourly, daily, weekly and monthly
reporting and analysis. A set of provided Tango Class Files lets
developers integrate information collected via Tango Web Analyzer
into their Web applications.

* User Defined Tags allow developers to extend Tango's built-in
meta tags by referencing logic defined in JavaScript or in supported
object types. Tango 2000's extensibility provides a flexible
development environment for the creation of Web applications.

* Full XML Implementation allows XML to be treated as a data
type inside Tango for manipulation of structured data. This provides
developers with a standard mechanism for complete, accurate
business-to-business communication. Tango Application Files are saved
in an XML format, allowing developers to edit or create Tango
Application Files outside of the Tango environment.

"In Internet time, developers are faced with increasing demands to
reduce the time required to build Web sites and Internet
applications, and to establish their presence on the Web," said Ron
Harris, president and CEO of Pervasive Software. "Tango 2000
integrates seamlessly with the rest of the Pervasive 2000 product
line to enable companies and individuals to create and manage
information wherever they go, and the Tango component makes this
possible via the Web."
