SONY EXPANDS EXCLUSIVE FD TRINITRON(r) LINEUP BY PACKING NEW TECHNOLOGY AND
DESIGN INTO POPULAR 19-INCH SCREEN SIZE

Company Also Expands Corporate Series with 19-inch Display Featuring Unique
Technologies

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 9, 1998 -- Showcasing its continued leadership in
display innovation and design, Sony Electronics today announced the
introduction of two 19-inch (18-inch viewable image size) Multiscan(r)
displays, including one that features new flat FD Trinitron technology. The
new products include the GDM-F400 display with Sony's new award-winning FD
Trinitron technology and the CPD-420GS corporate model.

"We believe our new models will redefine the standard for display quality
and performance," said Treg Tyler, marketing manager displays, Information
Technologies Marketing Division (ITMD) of Sony Electronics. "Not only are
we offering our users more options in today's hottest screen size, but we
are also providing the latest cutting-edge technologies available via our
exclusive FD Trinitron technology. Sony's FD Trinitron technology really
needs to be seen to be believed."

Sony Multiscan GDM-F400 Computer Display with FD Trinitron Technology

According to Tyler, the GDM-F400 Computer Display with FD Trinitron
technology is the world's flattest 19-inch (18-inch viewable image size)
Trinitron computer display.

Like Sony's flagship 21-inch GDM-F500 (19.8-inch viewable image size)
display, the Multiscan GDM-F400 features the technically advanced "flat out
better" Trinitron CRT, and an extremely fine 0.22mm aperture grille
pitch--the tightest aperture grille pitch available in the market today.
The display delivers graphics that are razor sharp and clear, with colors
that are bright, consistent and accurate.
Sony's GDM-F400 was designed with demanding CAD and graphic professionals
in mind. The "revolutionary" display will offer graphics professionals a
clean, sleek design along with the ultimate in image quality available on
CRT-based displays today. By incorporating exclusive technologies including
Sony's HiDensity(tm) Electron Gun with Enhanced Elliptical Correction
System(tm) technology, along with GeoLock Plus(tm) circuitry, the display
delivers enhanced image accuracy and stability, and provides unsurpassed
image clarity.

GDM-F400

-Joins Sony's GDM-F500 as new flagship CRT displays with FD Trinitron
technology

-19-inch (18-inch viewable image size) "virtually flat" display

-Tightest aperture grille pitch available -- 0.22mm across the entire screen

-HiDensity Electron Gun for crisp, bright and accurate images - even in the
corners

-Horizontal scan range up to 107kHz

-Maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 @ 85Hz

-Sony's GeoLock Plus(tm) circuitry for stable, consistent color and images

-Easy to navigate on-screen display with Sony's DisplayMouse(tm) control

-nstant sizing and centering of images with Sony's Active Signal Correction
(ASC[tm]) circuitry

-USB compatibility -- four active USB ports built into the base

-Equipped with all of the great features of the GDM-F500 in a 19-inch CRT
format

Sony Multiscan CPD-420GS Computer Display

Enhancing Sony's line-up of full-featured displays is the Multiscan
CPD-420GS Computer Display, a 19-inch (18-inch viewable image size)
Trinitron display that is ideal for corporate and mobile professionals. The
CPD-420GS computer display uses a flatter, short neck CRT design. It is a
perfect match for those who require superior image performance and
reliability in a 19-inch CRT size.

The unit also features two, new and unique user-friendly technologies:
MobilePort(tm) and Accurate Image Restoration(tm). Sony's unique
MobilePort(tm) technology incorporates a hidden 15-pin mini d-sub connector
located at the front of the display. Ideal for mobile professionals,
MobilePort technology allows for the quick and easy connection of a
notebook or a second computer. This eliminates the need to disconnect the
display's primary computer, thereby allowing the user to toggle between two
computers using the same display.

The Accurate Image Restoration(tm) technology is a digital control within
the display's OSD. Designed to keep the image performance to original
specification, this control provides the ability to automatically restore
the displays settings of brightness and color to the original "out of the
box" specification, years after the warranty has expired--therefore
reducing normal out-of-warranty maintenance.

CPD-420GS

-19-inch (18-inch viewable image size) Multiscan Computer Display

-Super fine aperture grille pitch - 0.25 - 0.27mm

-Reduces geometric distortion and glare - 50% Flatter than traditional CRTs

-Digital Multiscan and Active Signal Correction technologies allow for easy
set-up regardless of input
signal, resolution or platform

-High Horizontal Scan Rate (30-96kHz) and resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 @ 75Hz

-MobilePort(tm) technology allows for front input connection of a second
computer

-Accurate Image Restoration(tm) feature adjusts the image performance back
to factory specification
throughout the product's life

-DDC/CI Intelligence--allows for two-way communication between the display
and PC, providing setup and
control over the display's digital settings via software

-General Timing Formula--insures accuracy with varying video standards and
reduces setup time

"With the increased use of notebook computers in today's corporate
environment, the Multiscan 420GS display offers corporate IT/IS managers a
unique display solution for today's mobile professional - as well as the
multiple computer user. This connectivity, along with the reduced
maintenance costs associated with out-of-warranty displays, further depicts
Sony's commitment to meeting the specific needs of today's demanding
corporate environment," Tyler said. "With the addition of the Multiscan
420GS display, corporate users now have four screen sizes to choose from,
packed with some of the most advanced technologies available."
