[NPL] Sonnet Upgrades "Upgrade-challenged" and 68040 Macs

Sonnet Announces PowerPC
Upgrade for Quadra and Centris Macs

Sonnet Upgrades give 68040 Macintoshes PowerPC performance up to 11x
speed improvement, and OS 8.5 Capability

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA. January 4, 1999. Sonnet Technologies, the leading
manufacturer of performance upgrade products for Apple MacintoshTM
computers, today announced the Presto PPC, a PowerPCTM upgrade card
for Quadra and Centris Macintoshes. The upgrade includes a 100 MHz
601 PowerPC processor, 1MB onboard level 2 cache and Mac OS 8.5
Enabler. Quadra and Centris owners can expect an outstanding 500%
basic processor performance improvement and an 1100% floating point
performance increase. However, the best news is that Sonnets
proprietary Mac OS 8.5 Enabler software allows these Quadra and
Centris computers to now run Mac 8.5 and reap all the performance
benefits of running PowerPC native applications. For example, the
Sonnet Presto PPC enables Quadra and Centris owners to run Microsoft
Office 98 which requires a PowerPC processor.
The Presto PPC is compatible with:

Quadra 700/800/900/950
Quadra/Centris 610/650
(610 requires an adapter - available from Sonnet)

Reincarnation of the Daystar Digital Power Pro 601

When Daystar closed its doors 1 1/2 years ago, one of the voids left
in the market was a PowerPC upgrade path for 680x0 Macintoshes.
Sonnet Technologies acquired the rights to the DayStar Digital
upgrade card product line. Sonnet has enhanced the value of the Power
Pro 601with the Mac OS 8.5 Enabler.

Sonnet to Provide Upgrade To Existing Daystar Customers Sonnet will
be providing the Mac OS 8.5 enabler for existing Daystar Digital
Power Pro 601 customers for $49.95.

We are excited to announce the Presto PPC and provide Quadra and
Centris owners all the compatibility and performance benefits of
PowerPC at an extremely attractive price," said Robert Farnsworth,
President and founder of Sonnet Technologies. "This is another step
toward fulfilling our committment to bring the Macintosh community
quality upgrades for every possible Macintosh model, and we are also
glad to offer an upgrade path for formerly disenfranchised Daystar
customers.

The Presto PPC will be demonstrated at MacWorld SF and will be
shipped by the end of January. The estimated street price will be:
Presto PPC $399
