OPEN DOOR'S SHAREWAY IP TECHNOLOGY INCLUDED IN MAC OS 9 APPLE AND OPEN DOOR
TEAM UP TO PROVIDE KEY INTERNET FEATURES

Cupertino, CA -- October 5, 1999 -- Open Door Networks Inc. today announced
that Apple Computer is including a version of Open Door's IP file sharing
product, ShareWay IP, in its new Mac OS 9 system. ShareWay IP extends the
Mac's built-in file sharing capabilities to let any Mac user easily and
quickly share files over the Internet or an intranet. Open Door and Apple
also worked together on other Internet features of Mac OS 9, and Open Door
intends to announce additional Internet products concurrently with Mac OS 9
availability later this month.

"Open Door's mission has always been to provide Internet solutions that are
as easy to use and as powerful as the Macintosh itself," said Alan
Oppenheimer, president of Open Door Networks. "By working with Apple we've
been able to make these solutions available to all Mac users as a
fundamental, integrated part of the Mac OS. We're intensely proud of this
accomplishment. And we're just getting started!"

In addition to Mac OS 9's built-in IP file sharing through ShareWay IP,
areas of collaboration between Apple and Open Door include:

- Work on Apple's implementation of the Service Location Protocol (SLP) and
support for that protocol in IP file sharing, the Network Browser and
Navigation Services. SLP enables dynamic browsing and point-and-click
access to Mac OS 9's IP file sharing.

- Inclusion, on the Mac OS 9 CD-ROM, of an evaluation version of an
enhanced release of ShareWay IP which supplements the version built into
Mac OS 9 with additional security and other features.

- Inclusion, on the Mac OS 9 CD-ROM, of evaluation versions of Open Door's
DoorStop firewall and LogDoor monitoring applications. These applications
directly support, not only Mac OS 9's file sharing capabilities, but also
such new Mac OS 9 features as IP-based AppleScript.

By integrating ShareWay IP with Mac OS 9, Apple and Open Door provide IP
file sharing users with the same experience they have been used to for
years with AppleTalk-based file sharing. Apple pioneered the concept of
easy to use peer-to-peer file sharing through AppleTalk and AppleShare in
the early 1990's. Open Door added IP capabilities to file sharing with
ShareWay IP 1.0 in 1997, and point-and-click access through SLP with
ShareWay IP 2.0 in early 1999. With Mac OS 9, users can now turn on IP file
sharing simply by checking a box in the File Sharing Control Panel, and
other IP users can access files through such Mac OS 9 features as the
Network Browser and Navigation Services.

For Macs not upgrading to Mac OS 9, ShareWay IP is also available directly
from Open Door Networks for Mac OS 7.5.5 or later. Details of ShareWay IP,
including evaluation versions, are available at
http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/ . Specific details of ShareWay IP and Mac
OS 9 are available at http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/macos9.html .

Open Door Networks, Inc. is the leading provider of tools that aid in the
rapidly accelerating migration of Macintosh networks from AppleTalk to
Internet protocols. Open Door was founded in January, 1995 by Alan
Oppenheimer, an 11-year Apple veteran and co-creator of the AppleTalk
network system. Open Door's mission is to provide Macintosh users with
Internet solutions that are as easy-to-use and as powerful as the Macintosh
itself. Open Door Networks is located in Ashland, Oregon.
